5.0 out of 5 stars The beginning and the End January 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD
This is, of course, the final recordings of Throbbing Gristle, minus Genesis. Due to Genesis bailing out on the end of the final Throbbing Gristle tour, he unwittingly created a new band, XTG, to fulfill the final 2 shows of the tour. The 3 remaining
members decided to continue, until the untimely death of the great Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson. The Desertshore album was Peter's idea, to do a cover version of Nico's classic album Desertshore. Peter died before the completion of the project, so
Cosey and Chris finished it, along with a little help from Peter's friends, as a loving tribute. It is a beautiful album, very dark, but some of the most listenable music Throbbing Gristle ever created. The Final Report is classic late-period Throbbing Gristle....
creative dark ambient, at times intense but always amazing, proving that Peter, Chris and Cosey were the real magicians behind the Throbbing Gristle sound, and Genesis was really only the dramatic front wo/man. Even though XTG has released a different version of
Desertshore--an "evil twin" album available for download on their website, and has plans to release the rest of the studio work the three did together, plus the two concerts they performed...to be released sometime in 2013-2014, it is a shame that the trio couldn't have continued and explored more. There is real energy, art and enthusiasm here. We can be thankful that we have this. The world lost a true artist and original with Peter Christopherson's death. RIP Peter, RIP Throbbing Gristle. Don't hesitate to get this...highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice finish for TG July 17, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A good project to close out the legacy of Throbbing Gristle. Too bad Genesis was not involved in the final product, but still this is worth owning by any TG fan. The tribute album covering Nico's Desertshore was a perfect choice. It's hard to imagine anyone improving on Nico's album, but these are great covers of Nico; "Janitor of Lunacy" is especially good.

5.0 out of 5 stars TG Closes the Book and Says Goodbye to Sleazy July 16, 2013

Beautiful packaging, great recording, inspiring realization of the band's end. I really, really love it. The realization of Nico's DESERTSHORE is occasionally lacking, but very good on the whole.

Hey, it's a MUST for Throbbing Gristle fans. So what are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars not skipping a beat April 29, 2014
Format:Audio CD
sadly genesis was not part of this project, but at the same time, this is an excellent testament on how powerful and talented the band is anyway. this is a great piece of dark ambient sounds and a solid performance all around by the remaining members of TG. not much to complain or criticize about this Final Report. the soundscapes created here are ones that warrant numerous playings, will different journeys everytime. a highly recommended release for any dark ambient collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome February 19, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
desertshore - musically is fantastic, though some of the vocals dont really do it for me.

the final report - it is unfortunate that they were only able to produce one album together as x-tg. the tracks collected here
are amazing.
