This review is from: Desiderata: Words For Life (Hardcover)
Desiderata, Words for Life by Max Ehrmann with photographs by Marc Tauss is gorgeous. It is filled with thought provoking words and dreamy, lush photos. Desiderata is beautifully designed with lovely, richly toned photos and simple, elegant typography. Desiderata offers quite a mental escape for one during rough times. It's a perfect book for many different occasions: graduations, birthdays, promotions, etc. I highly recommend it for people of all ages.

This version of Desiderata is one of the most magnificent and inspirational books I have seen! Marc Tauss' photographs add beauty and completion to this Max Ehrmann work. It is a perfect gift, especially for a graduate. It would make an excellent addition to anyone's library.

Perspective on life's big picture,
By
This review is from: Desiderata - A Survival Guide For Life (Paperback)
One of my favorite poems, a comforting and refreshing perspective on life's big picture. It purports to have been discovered in a church in the seventeenth century, but in fact it was written by a man named Max Ehrmann in the first third of this century. I have kept a copy around since elementary school (ever since I learned that Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, kept one in his office), and now keep one in my office at home and one at work.

A Guide for the Journey,
By J. Tudor (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Desiderata: Words For Life (pob) (Hardcover)
"Desiderata" is one of the great meditations. Its ending, "With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world," is a guide and a profound source of encouragement, reminiscent of Mikhail Bulgakov's story, "Psalm," which in proasic form offers a similar message: "Somehow we'll have a beautiful life." "Desiderata" offers deep wisdom; it gains credibility with its admission that indeed there is suffering; there are "broken dreams." The meditation also evokes the ending of William Saroyan's play "In the Time of Your Life": "In the time of your life, live -- so that in that good time there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness everywhere ....Ignore the obvious, for it is unworthy of the clear eye and the kindly heart. Be the inferior of no man, nor of any man be the superior. Remember that every man is a variation of yourself.... In the time of your life, live -- so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it." Like the ending of this play, "Desiderata" offers light for roads that can sometimes be dark.

Desiderata, illustrated by Emil Antonucci,
By A Customer
This review is from: Desiderata (Hardcover)
The only version of Desiderata to buy is the one that is illustrated by Emil Antonucci. ISBN 0-517-53422-3. Unfortunately it is out of print. So I am going to let Amazon search for me.The version illustrated by Sally Sturman, currently in bookstores, pales in comparison.

This is a wonderful book for any age. The Desiderata, an inspirational poem, was written long ago. This book illustrates the words using simple, yet striking, photographs. I have bought this book for teachers, students, and as gifts for graduates. I always keep a copy in my collection. Words we can all live by.

Wonderful and simple words for life written in 1927 by Max Ehrmann. This 2003 version has photographs by Marc Tauss. I received it as a wedding present 2 years ago and it makes a perfect gift for anyone experiencing some kind of change in life as a reminder of some ancient wisdom. It is wonderful for yourself, but is also great for all types of events and stages of life... a graduation, new parents, a wedding, a loss, a need for peace or sanity, anything.

I gave eight of these books away for Christmas this year. I love the book because proceeds go to the Daniel Pearl Foundation, not to mention the nice black and white photography and inspiring philosophy. This book is a bit of sunshine on demand.
