5.0 out of 5 stars Shazam! These two chefs know why Kitchenaid wishes they'd thought of this patented new beater blade!
First, I'll start by saying we are two gourmet nuts in this household. My honey owns a food manufacturing company and between the two of us foodies, there is a whole heck of a lot of cooking going on. In fact, we bought our current house based on the size of the kitchen being able to fit all of our gadgets. We love food. We love to cook.

Okay, so that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but messy
I've owned the same Kitchenaid mixer for 20 years now. This is a great innovation, HOWEVER, it is messy. It does a great job keeping the sides clean, but I just made a cake and the beater really propels the batter all over the place. I had the same issue when I made the frosting. Maybe it takes some getting used to.....but for right now, it's kind of a toss up as to...

Okay, so that self-disclosure said, I read about these blades before they ever came out in one of my gourmet magazines. I found it interesting that Kitchenaid wasn't the one to come up with it and get the patent. It's brilliant! But only if it really works...

I love the Kitchenaid mixers and think they are among the best out there. They have just been improved, but, oddly not by Kitchenaid!

This speeds up your mixing time by half! The only thing I didn't like about my God-of-all-mixers was having to stop, lower the bowl, stir, and continue in order to get a perfectly mixed food product. Now, I put this blade in (which, unlike my other blade that came with my mixer, is also dishwasher safe mind you...another plus for hygeine and time management!) and add my ingredients and now I just walk away and work on the rest of my recipe.

And, I mean to tell you, it reaches every last crumb! This is some serious mixing!

I have used it on the hardest to stir ingredients...from bread dough to sugar cookie dough, to pasta mixtures to foccacia dough...this blade has seen some mixing!

Because you need a different blade for each model of beater, be sure to look at your serial number and matching up the info of what your size is etc on the Kitchenaid site before ordering if you need to. I wonder if this is what made some other blades snap--getting the wrong size? I say this because we cook all 3 meals and 2 snacks we eat each day and we use this thing constantly and it's bullet proof material :-) and we beat it up without any issues. but there are so many different blades you have to be careful to get the right one for your model.

Plus, it had the highest of ratings from my unbiased cooking mag reviews of it as it was coming out.

Personally, we'll never use the old beater blade again..so much so we tossed it in the trash the first time we used this one. It's a new era in mixing, Kitchenaiders! (and owners of other mixers that this fits) And, for us, a must have.

Negatives: I had to do a little research to ensure I got the right blade for my mixer. I wish they would list the mixer name in order to correctly order the right blade since Kithenaid makes so many different style mixers. In other words, If I could have read "fits the Kitchenaid professional model" I would have ordered the correct size first instead of first ordering the wrong one based upon quart size then having to return it after fully studying the serial model number and doing some research.

For me, that's the only negative. I think this blade ROCKS the KITCHEN!

4.0 out of 5 stars Your Use will Determine the Beater Blade's Value to You, December 1, 2008
This review is from: New Metro Design Beater Blade for 5-Quart KitchenAid Tilt-Head Mixers, white grey blades (Kitchen)
I purchased the Beater Blade to use with my Viking 7-Qt. mixer; my primary use of that machine is making artisan breads.

I love my Viking mixer for bread making, but occasionally use it to make cookies which contain a high proportion of oatmeal. Thus, the dry ingredients are prone to gathering along the sides and bottom of the mixing bowl and require that I stop the mixer, lift the head and move the ingredients using a spatula. While that isn't exactly a Herculean task, it is annoying. However, due to a stubborn streak and a less than industrious attitude on the particular day, I tried scraping the side of the bowl while the mixer was down and moving - even though I know better. The result was a broken spatula - just as one would expect.

When I saw this Beater Blade, I thought it might solve the problem. Once you have adjusted the Beater Blade, it does an excellent job of clearing the sides and bottom of the bowl. If you mix a lot of cookie dough or batter-type foods, then this item is well worth the money you will spend for it. The Beater Blade doesn't generate heat like the metal beaters, and, as a result, shortenings do not melt during creaming. The final product is much less "soupy" than when making cookie doughs using a metal beater. However, if you use your mixer primarily for breads, as I do, then the the Beater Blade is probably something you can live without.

I rated this item four stars because its utility is questionable in relation to the cost. Further, I have some concern about the longevity of the blade itself and whether it will wear quickly or whether it will become brittle if washed in the dishwasher.

To put it in simple terms this thing is amazing!
I used it the day it arrived due to my curiousity
and I was thrilled with it's performance. It mixed my
cake batter so well that I didn't have to even stir
once to incorporate the ingredients. It was just
wonderful!

The beater is excellent. Really does the job, but don't use it with nuts; they'll shred the soft blades.

IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS (SCRAPES THE BOWL) BUT USE YOUR SPLASH GUARD! EVEN STARTING AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, IT SENDS BOWL CONTENTS FLYING.

I picked this up the other day and just finished baking a batch of cookies with it- all I can say is that I absolutely love this product! It makes mixing batters so much easier as I don't have to constantly stick a spatula in the bowl to scrape down residual ingredients along the sides. I also did not have any unmixed ingredients in the bottom of my bowl which occasionally happens with the standard attachment. I will definitely be recommending this product to my friends and family with stand mixers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Creates a Flourstorm; some ingredients stick to blades, October 7, 2009

Although the beater blade DOES scrape down the sides, it has a few shortcomings which makes it a lot less useful than it could be.
1. Dry ingredients have nowhere to go but out. If your bowl is anywhere more than 1/2 full, even if you start on slowest speed (Kitchenaid tilt head), a good deal of flour flies into the air and out of the bowl. I've wound up starting batters with the regular blade, then switching to a Beater Blade. Which is a pain.

2. Wet ingredients -- particularly fats like butter - seem to clump up on the blades themselves and don't get mixed. It seems almost like the plastic blades aren't "slick" enough. So after a few minutes mixing a batter and it all looks well blended, you take out the blade and its got unmixed stuff on it. So now I have to remember to stop in the middle of mixing to use a knife to scrape down the blades.

3. Overall construction looks cheap. Very lightweight plastic. Durability is questionable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have Accessory!!, December 28, 2008

If you use your KitchenAid mixer to any degree, you know how annoying it can be to have to stop the mixer, lift the head, and scrape down the bowl. Especially if you're doing a lot of mixing!

This beater blade scrapes the sides of the bowl perfectly. Better than you can with a spatula! It comes with directions on adjusting your mixer so it works properly, but mine didn't need any adjustments, worked properly right out of the box.

It's made of heavy duty clear plastic, and the scraper blades seem to be made of that silicone plastic stuff. My only concern is that the plastic body can't possibly last as long as metal -- maybe at some point the manufacturer will make the body out of stainless steel...

Overall, 5 stars and a must-have accessory. Go buy one now!

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good!, January 20, 2009
This review is from: New Metro Design Beater Blade for 5-Quart KitchenAid Tilt-Head Mixers, white grey blades (Kitchen)
My girlfriend does cakes for a living and now she doesn't have to scrape the bowl every 5 seconds to get all the icing mixed. I,for some reason, expected a metal blade, but was wrong. The center is translucent plastic, and flimsier than expected but performs well. As earlier reviewers said, you should pour ingredients into the center of the bowl or you'll end up with a cloud of batter/sugar/flour filling your house. But I have no complaints about this product, or the shipping...except for the center is not metal. Oh well... it works!
