5.0 out of 5 stars this is the answer!
I've had a 6 quart Kitchen Aid for two years now and one of the biggest problem is their poor blade design that doesn't get nearly enough of the batter. I can't believe how well this beater blade fixes the problem - where has it been? I love it! It gets into every single spot, cuts down on beating time (mostly time spent scraping the bowl with a spatula). This is a must...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beater blade breaks
I purchased the KA-5L and used it happily for about a month; right up until I made stiff cookie dough. It snapped right off. I will get another one because they are so cool but I will not use them for stiff dough like bread or cookies. Why don't they make this from the metal like the other beaters?

4.0 out of 5 stars Your Use will Determine the Beater Blade's Value to You, December 1, 2008
This review is from: New Metro Design Beater Blade for KitchenAid 6-Quart & 5-Plus Mixers, White (Kitchen)
I purchased the Beater Blade to use with my Viking 7-Qt. mixer; my primary use of that machine is making artisan breads.

I love my Viking mixer for bread making, but occasionally use it to make cookies which contain a high proportion of oatmeal. Thus, the dry ingredients are prone to gathering along the sides and bottom of the mixing bowl and require that I stop the mixer, lift the head and move the ingredients using a spatula. While that isn't exactly a Herculean task, it is annoying. However, due to a stubborn streak and a less than industrious attitude on the particular day, I tried scraping the side of the bowl while the mixer was down and moving - even though I know better. The result was a broken spatula - just as one would expect.

When I saw this Beater Blade, I thought it might solve the problem. Once you have adjusted the Beater Blade, it does an excellent job of clearing the sides and bottom of the bowl. If you mix a lot of cookie dough or batter-type foods, then this item is well worth the money you will spend for it. The Beater Blade doesn't generate heat like the metal beaters, and, as a result, shortenings do not melt during creaming. The final product is much less "soupy" than when making cookie doughs using a metal beater. However, if you use your mixer primarily for breads, as I do, then the the Beater Blade is probably something you can live without.

I rated this item four stars because its utility is questionable in relation to the cost. Further, I have some concern about the longevity of the blade itself and whether it will wear quickly or whether it will become brittle if washed in the dishwasher.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good...with a warning, August 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Okay, first...this thing is great for mixing. It mixes well, scrapes everything off the sides and does exactly what it says it will. Okay, now the warning. It will come apart if you're not careful. I have 3 of them. 2 of them have come apart. Granted, I use them a LOT, but it is not the use that has done this. The 2 that have come apart have been destroyed due to the dishwasher. That's why I still gave it 4 stars and not lower...but I couldn't give it 5 stars because it says it is dishwasher safe. Well, I've used the third one the most and only hand washed it each time and it has survived much longer. That being said, I use these for mixing creams in a laboratory, and my dishwasher gets a few degrees hotter (not much, but I figured it's worth mentioning) than a normal dishwasher so that may be the culprit. All in all, I still recommend this to anyone. Even using it every single day and washing it in the dishwasher every day, you can get several months out of it...and for how well it works, it's worth it.

Excellent product, totally satisfied, anyone who does alot of baking will benefit from this product. It eliminates the need to constantly stop the mixer to scrape down the bowl. Would highly recommend this product!

The difference in how this works compared to the regular beater is neglible. It certainly did not scrape down the sides or bottom of the bowl. It is also much more difficult to remove the dough or batter from this beater and to clean it. I would not recommend this item.

This item is great. I tried it on my 6-cup KA, and it worked as promised, keeping the bowl swept clean. I did not have to stop and scrape down the sides as I often do. I'll be using it quite a bit.

Amazing that no one invented this sooner...a real step-saver! Eliminating the need to stop the mixer and scrape down the sides of the bowl makes mixing a breeze. The smartest kitchen tool I've bought in years.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but...., November 16, 2008

The beater blade is good and does clean the side of the bowl. However, I find it retains the "thinner" (ie: eggs, etc) in the middle of the blade and I have to make sure it get mixed back in by stopping and pushing it out into the batter. Also the blade retains some of the first mixed dough on the blade so it is advisable to scrape it off before you are finsihed mixing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as side swipe, February 1, 2010

(It was pointed out to me that I posted this on the version for the 5 qt bowl when it should have been posted here. Thanks to the gracious individual who let me know about this mistake and sorry for the confusion...)

I recently bought a Kitchen Aid Pro 6 which I'd been lusting after for years. Expecting the problem of the five qt model to be resolved, I was disappointed to see this powerful beater slinging the contents of the bowl to the sides, repeatedly making me stop the bowl and scrape down again. I had a sideswipe beater blade for my 5 qt and it was great. Ordering the Beater Blade for my Pro 6 was a big mistake. I'm returning it and buying the Sideswipe because the BB is NO improvement over the blade that came with the 6 qt. If you want this...
