About the Author

James Bennett has been involved with the marriage of design and technology for well over a decade. James assisted in the creation of the Arts and Technology Lab at the University of South Florida, where he developed screen graphics and computer-generated animation during the infancy of the new media explosion. Currently James teaches at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, Florida.

I bought this book for a class. This book is not all that helpful. I found better information in "how to for dumbies.." books. I didn't learn much from this book at all. It was too plane and simple and you don't feel like your gaining any information when you read it. If you are buying this book for other than a class I would look some where else. This book is used in a number of university courses on designing with new media and is liked by students and faculty alike. It offers practical advice as well as keeping the big picture in mind. Students have used it to create great products in a variety of media. Recommended!

As an artist I appreciate the depth given to the subjects. The chapters are short, but when doing assignments it gives exactly what designers or students need to know to create a well layed out web page. It is writen so that those that have just started doodeling and want to be designers can do just that. The illustrations are top notch and allow more experienced artists to become inspired. This alone helps to reinforce the elements of design, and allow those that read this book to critique with a full vocabulary. It has really helped me explain what is being done right and what is being done wrong in a piece. I was required to get this book for Visual Design Fundimentals and I think I'm going to keep it for an example of what a design can really look like when I put your mind to it.
