Beware! There are several inaccuracies in this book starting with stretch reduction tables on page 77- mostly mathematical errors. Some errors are random but some are in the entire table. I called the the publisher (Fairchild) and they are aware of the problem but I'm wondering why it's not recalled! Shame on you Fairchild!
Is K. Richardson reviewing his own book? see review below.

Good resource for working with knit fabrics.,

This otherwise wonderful book has one huge flaw - the tables contain errors. The author has gone to the trouble to generate multiple tables for various sizes - misses, mens, petite, women, etc., and then work through various reductions for these depending on garment style and stretch ratio but all that is in apparent vain as no-one bothered to proof the tables. So be prepared to check all the calculations yourself.
The book does give a comprehensive review of both patterning and working with knits.

Not worth the money,

This book is so poorly written that our teacher had to correct the book before we could do a lesson. Pictures were often misplaced, not matching the text. What was correct was confusing, and this to students who are already well-schooled in pattern drafting. There are more mistakes than good information. Not worth it at all.

This book was assigned as our college text book for working with knits. It is horrible. There are typos, gramatical errors and other mistakes on what feels like every page. It is not possible to follow the directions as per the book if you do not already have a backround in drafting, for example there are missing instrutions.

Too Many Errors,

I am very disappointed in this book. The pictures and explanations are unclear and there are many numerical errors which make the patterns difficult to draft even if you have some experience with pattern making.

Price Reduction,
This review is from: Design and Patternmaking for Stretch Fabrics (Spiral-bound)
If this book has so many grammatical and mathematical errors and the Publisher (Fairchild) has also acknowledged that the book has errors, why are we still paying over 80.00 dollars for it? doesn't seem right. I think there needs to be a significant price reduction. Even in the used section your still paying 60.00 or more. For a book with so many issues, that we have to correct ourselves you shouldn't pay more than $20.00.
Also, a little cheesy that the author commented on his own book and gave it rave reviews. We all have to acknowledge our mistakes sometime, just make the corrections and I'm sure people will love the book, I mean there really are no books that pertain to patternmaking for knits, there's a market for it, and I would definitely invest in it if its worth it and I'm getting accurate information. |
