A Pre-Computer Age Book About Making Posters,
By Stephen Tashiro "sometimes reliable" (Las Cruces, NM United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Design and Print Your Own Posters (Paperback)
The book "Design And Print Your Own Posters" by J. I. Biegeleisen (first printing 1984,copyright 1976) is a pre-computer age book that gives a 1980's era description of how to make and print posters. This book would be of interest to people who intend to use only manual techniques of creating a poster. For example, it has brief sections on topics such as hand lettering and using dry transfer lettering. It has nothing about using computer generated images. It emphasizes printing by silkscreening and that topic makes up about 1/3 of the book. There is nothing about using inkjet printers. Most of the illustrations in the book are black and white drawings. There are a few black and white photographs whose information could just as well have been shown by a drawing. About 6 pages of the book are in color. They show examples of posters and information about the color wheel.
I rate this book as two stars out of five to indicate that it is an out of date treatment of poster making. (Without claiming to be an expert in silkscreening, I estimate that it is an average treatment of that subject.) Contents Part One: Poster Design 1. What makes an effective poster 11 2.
