it is a very basic introduction to stage design and set management, but it can get you through the making and managing of a set. With no knowledge of theatre and this book, you can design, biuld paint,and support, a set, and be creative in the process

This concise book is excellent in giving you the basics of stage design, especially in showing you the equipment and properties involved and how they are used on stage. The author is British, so some of the terminology is slightly different than used in the U.S. But, Holt does an excellent job in explaining these concepts.
Personally, I am more interested in screenwriting and directing than in stage design. But, this is a wonderful guide, to help one understand what is involved in a first-class production. The more you know about related areas, the better you can understand how everything should fit together and appreciate everyone's creative contributions.
