About the Author

Guy Finley's encouraging and accessible message is one of the true bright lights in our world today. His ideas cut straight to the heart of our most pressing personal and social issues -- relationships, fear, addiction, stress/anxiety, peace, happiness, freedom and lead the way to a higher life.

Guy is the best-selling author of The Secret of Letting Go and more than 36 other books and audio albums that have sold over a million copies in 16 languages worldwide. In addition, he has presented over 4,000 unique self-realization seminars to thousands of grateful students throughout North America and Europe over the past 20 years and has been a guest on over 400 television and radio shows, including national appearances on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, NPR, Wisdom Network, and many others. His radio program, "Guy Finley Live," is a live chat that airs monthly on HealthyLife.net as part of the network's "Visionary Celebrity Host Series." His syndicated weekly radio program is aired on several international networks including Healthylife Radio Network, WorldTalkRadio Network, and Contact Talk Radio International. His work is widely endorsed by doctors, business professionals, celebrities, and religious leaders of all denominations.

Guy's career reached this point through a circuitous path. Born into a successful show business family, he is the son of Late-Night TV and radio pioneer Larry Finley. His childhood friends were the sons and daughters of the most famous celebrities in the world. As a young man Guy enjoyed success in a number of areas including composing award-winning music for many popular recording artists including Diana Ross, Debbie Boone, The Jackson 5, Billy Preston, The Four Seasons, as well as writing the scores for several motion pictures and TV shows. From 1970-1979 he wrote and recorded his own albums under the Motown and RCA recording labels.

Throughout his youth, Guy suspected there was more to life than the type of worldly success that led to the emptiness and frustration he saw among his own "successful" friends and colleagues. In 1979, after travels throughout North America, India and the Far East in search of truth and Higher Wisdom, Guy voluntarily retired from his flourishing music career in order to simplify his life and to concentrate on deeper self-studies.

In addition to his writing and appearance schedule, Guy presents four inner-life classes each week at his non-profit Life of Learning Foundation headquarters in Merlin, Oregon. These classes are ongoing and open to the public.

I can not explain completely but this book changed my life. After reading the book fully and then rereading it to apply to my life it changed how I viewed many things in my life. It allowed me to see things differently and then to react to things differently and find more successful ways in dealing with people events etc in my life. I stopped blaming everything on everyone else and took responsibility for how I look and reacted to things. That gave me strength to deal proactive and stop being a martyr to everything. I became an active maker in my life instead of letting everything else effect me. It was the right thing to come into my life at the right time. How I found it in the wrong section of the book store and how I happen to pick it up I will never know. But I am still very grateful.
Everyone who has ever had difficulty I have given them a copy of this book. And it has blown them all away when they were ready to see it.

"All is not as it appears to be," is an adage discussed in the early portion of this book. We're told that thoughts deceive us all the time. One of the purposes of this book is to think deeper thoughts and grow beyond the facade. Risk makes one vulerable, but it is rewarding in that as it is taken, the potential gains are worth the effort. The only real losers are those who refuse to take risks.
Good emotional health is addressed in chapter three. It covers forgiveness. A person refusing to forgive only hurts himself or herself. He makes a similar point in the eleventh chapter when he writes about exercising one's mind regularly. He adds, "No matter what happens, never blame anyone--or anything--for the way you feel." The issue is ownership of one's emotions. People who feel in control are less likely to be stressed than those who feel like they are victims of other people or circumstances.
On the matter of doing something is better than doing nothing, i.e., activity is desired over passivity, consider the quote he uses from Thomas Carlyle, "Every noble work is at first impossible."
The insightful wisdom contained in this book can improve you thought life and thus enhance your quality of life. I recommend this book.

There are a lot of books nowadays that contain the word "life-changing" in thier description. I have read lots of such books and I should say that none of them was so life-changing as this one. They changed my life somehow for a limited period of time and then I had to get some new portion of stimulation. This book will not allow you to step back. "Design your destiny" has very laconical style (so if you need long speeches and promises to be motivated, it is not for you) but it has an incredible impact on the way of thinking. If you are not good at mindfulness you are to follow the instructions strictly. If you have certain experience in meditation, mindfulness and awareness, but need a sort of a finishing click to go to the next level of spirituality, then it is enough to read the book one time.

And one more note. At some book I have read such thought: you can vizualize and affirm 5 minutes a day and have results BUT if the rest of the day is wasted for worrying, then you will have no results. Further there was a common exercise for chaning limiting beliefs (that does not work for me personally). No effect can be expected if you do not control your mind, if you do not notice the slightest move of the mind towards negativity. This Guy Finley's book is the best tool for full negative thoughts elimination and mind control. Only after mastering you mind you can start using vizualization and affirmations.

There were plenty of moments when I thought that I may be a little slow at understanding. Though I found myself having to read a particular paragraph more than once, I enjoyed it. I do hold any regret about purchasing this book. One of the things from this book that I will forever carry with me is that at the end of everything, no one can touch who I really am. That is a powerful thought. That means to me that, after all the back and forth and the people not agreeing with me, I am still me and no words can change that.
