I bought this for my 6 year old & she opened it as an early present.The ball is ok,it bounces much farther than a real basketball,being made of a different sort of rubber.Ok for bouncing but not to good for real basketball. The paint was fun to inject into the ball,but you can't really control where it goes though.As it turns out,that doesn't matter because all the paint mixed and puddled in the bottom of the ball.It doesn't seem to be drying in there.So don't get your hopes up artisticlly,but its fun for 4 to 6 year olds.don't pay full price for this,wait until its at least 50% off.

My 5 year old son received the 'Design Your Own Basketball' kit as a birthday present from a friend.

We opened the package and used the provided air pump to inflate the translucent ball. The pump was easy enough for my 5 year old to operate and he had a fun time inflating the ball himself - it made him feel 'strong' :) After inflating the ball, he chose the paint color he would use first. He chose red... I filled up the provided paint injector with the red paint, inserted the tip into the ball and he squoze the paint in the ball. We bounced the ball back and forth to each other... distributing the paint in a splatter like pattern around the inside of the ball. It looked really neat! We then used all the other colors and bounced each one to make a neat pattern and complete the ball.

My son is very proud of his creation, he did most of it himself...AND he has a unique ball that no one else in the neighborhood has :) We would recommend this kit to others and will buy some in the future to give as gifts too!

My son was very excited when he opened this gift! He insisted we make this ball right away. In the end we were disappointed. We were able to inflate the ball, but were unable to use the paint. We could not get the syringe to suck up the paint. In the end my husband broke the syringe. The ball itself is nice and bounces well, but the whole "design it" thing didn't work out for us.
