Product Description
ABC Slate
ABC Slate

Do you have a preschool child just learning how to recognize and draw their ABCs? If so, loading up the ABC Slate app into your Android device will give you a mess free, and highly mobile, virtual chalk board. This interactive chalk board helps guide children on how to properly recognize and write the English alphabet in either upper or lowercase block letters.

Trace and Learn

Simply trace the letter forms, or write them free-hand, on the simulated writing paper below ABC Slate's example. If your child becomes stuck on recognizing the letter, a voice prompt may be pressed that sounds out the letter with a pleasant, child-friendly voice.

As Easy As ABC

The practice paper uses solid or dashed paper lines with optional follow-the-dot lines for each letter. ABC slate is easy to use for children with responsive touch control to avoid confusing your child. Your little tot will be successfully writing letters before you know it.

I just tried this for a min. Great app for teaching kids their letter. There is an option for both upper and lower case along with a few other features.

4.0 out of 5 stars On the go usable app November 10, 2012

This app is just what I need for my 6 yr old working on his letters. It works fine the touch is responsive but using a stylus might be easier.
I like the options to split the screen- the blank writing area and removing the track (dotted lines to follow).
My son will be able to practice more now that I have this on the go on my fire.
Simple Clean app for the young ones any age to teach or help practice. I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 year-old loves this January 5, 2013

Simple app that lets your child learn how to write letters. I often find my 3.5-year-old grabbing the tablet and practicing her writing. Now if I could only get her to always use the stylus so she gets used to using a pencil instead of her finger...

4.0 out of 5 stars exactly as advertised November 10, 2012

This app fully performs the function stated, and it does it well. It's a practice slate for writing your letters, with an optional drawing guide that shows you how to trace it.

The one thing I miss from the actual paper ones is the numbered steps and arrows. This just has the dotted letter outline, no guide around it.

And some of the letters look weird, but that's probably either a font choice, or copied from a different brand of schooling material than I used way back in the day. Doesn't harm the app any.

Overall, pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars simple and useful tool November 10, 2012
Verified Purchase
Nothing flashy or special about this app, but that's what I like about it. It is simple, and it does everything I would expect it to. The animation for each letter makes this better than using plain old paper and pencil. Note: I have a slightly customized 7" tablet and a stylus. Also, as another reviewer pointed out, it has a direct link to the Amazon market, so beware of leaving small children unattended with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for school age children November 10, 2012

I downloaded this thinking it might be good for my 6 year old. He is in first grade and loves to write, but he could use help with some of his letters. What I like about this is it has upper and lower case letters with a tracing guide. It has the ability to erase and try again or erase just part of the letter written. The thing I like most is the example feature. It will write the letter out before your child's eyes so they can see the proper way to write the letter. As they go through the alphabet it will save the letters as your child wrote them so you can go back and see if your child needs more practice on a specific letter. I did giggle at the reviewer who said this was good for a 2 year old. The only thing my 2 year old would do with this is scribble all over it. For the intended purpose of practicing letters I would recommend for ages 4+.

4.0 out of 5 stars a few suggestions July 11, 2014

I like this app... my 4 year old has been using it for 6 months now... please allow the options to split screen the cap as nd lower case together... it would be nice for them to associate that they are the same letter! Also an audio of the letter name and the sound the letter makes is also necessary to associate with the letter. (I saw an audio option.. but it doesn't work.) Make these changes and will be 5 stars!

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of space on my device.
This app was awful, waste of money and frustrating to use. It only allows you to write one letter and then you need to clear it or pick a new letter. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Nexus 7 fail
App says not compatible with device. No explanation why, app store allows for install. Looks like Dev crippled it after agreeing to release on free app of the day.

I got this hoping the kids would learn and practice their letters. It was hard enough to get them to keep trying and in the end this just wasn't worth the effort. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Ehh, it works, ish
It works, it does what it says that it does... But its not professional and needs a lot of work. I recommend looking around for other apps that may be better.
