Editorial Reviews

Review

Combining beads with embroidery stitches on clothing and accessories has a long tradition that has seen a revival in recent years. This book collects projects mostly by Australian designers who use traditional embroidery stitches with beads and sequins to quite lovely effect. Some have three-dimensional elements similar to stumpwork. Fashion designer King (Designer Techniques: Couture Tips for Home Sewing) presents design motifs stitched entirely of beads and sequins that may be added to one's clothing. The motifs include flowers, borders, and allover filling stitches. Both books are recommended for public library crafts collections. -Library Journal October 15, 2006

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC BOOK!!!!, March 10, 2007
This is the perfect book if you are interested in beading clothing, but the techniques will work on anything. The soft cover book contains beautiful glossy color pages. The descriptions are concise and clear, and someone with limited previous beading experience could follow along. Mr. King covers transferring designs to fabric and using frames and hoops in a way that I've not seen in other beading books. With this book, I feel equipped to replicate some of the expensive garments I've seen in the high-end department stores. Also covered is the application of sequins, beaded mesh, dangling beaded fringe, and the included 150 patterns and techniques useful and fun. Definitely well worth the bucks!

Kenneth King has translated his skills as a embellisher fantastically into this book. On the first look through, I was in awe of the detail laid out for each style of beading - type, stitches used, materials needed. With a second look through, I noticed the layout for each of the embellishment designs - the amount of enlargement needed for a select size, stitches "coded" ( like in a knitting graph) - very thoroughly thought out presentation. I think I'm left hanging here - this designer should be doing a follow-up book, this is really a beautifully put together book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Designer Bead Embroidery, March 26, 2007
To me, this is an amazing book. I bought this for my daughter, who is eight. She started making these cute little purses and wanted to make them "fancier". I showed how to applique and embelish with beads but it wasn't enough she wanted "fancy". I purchased this book for her, WE LOVE IT. She has taken the book into her room and on her own created. She needed me to explain the stitches a little at first, but now she just goes. I am a homeschool mom of 5 children and I don't pay retail for anything. For this book, I did and it is worth every penny. I think if you are just beginning or know what you're doing, this book is a perfect reference or a jumping place for inspiration.
