Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The logical extension of the Red Hat Society--an international disorganization of women over 50 celebrating self and life--is something tangible, something memorable. The results of the society teaming with the ever-ready Chapelle Studios and its designers is this collection of album pages, small items, and alliterative and punny captions determined to make readers smile. Don't expect a particular order or a specific theme except for an effusion of red and purple on every page--and comments from Ruby RedHat, the official cartoon mascot of the RHS. Not all of the 80 projects include instructions or a list of materials; all of the scrapbooklike pages, for instance, feature only a two- to three-sentence description with an idea or two (like using buttons as a frame) and the full-color design. On the other hand, expect good instructions for such giftables as invitations, Christmas ornaments, recipe cards and box, and, yes, a royal scepter, among others. Celebrating life and the wisdom of age can be both a silly and an effective way to target markets. Barbara Jacobs

I purchased this book because on the Red Hat Society site it said it had nearly 100 projects in it. In actual count there are 26 actual craft projects, plus 72 photos of finished scrapbook pages. Lots of cute ideas but don't think you're getting nearly 100 different "projects".

Book pages are about 9" square and the photos of the scrapbook pages are about 7" square. Excellent, clear photography showing all the design ideas. Each scrapbook page has a little box with a description of the page contents or techniques. The scrapbook pages are almost all very gaudy with expensive embellishments, I would guess to be prepared to spend up to $10 per page if you copy them.

The projects include a Bra Purse made from a large red bra (I gotta do this one!), table accessories, Christmas ornaments, invitations, bags, tags, books, boxes, a Royal Sceptre, and more.

There are lots of tips and techniques sprinkled throughout, humorously presented.

A good price here on amazon, I paid $20 for it at the Red Hat Society site.

I have no idea what the Red Hat Society really is, but lots of the layouts shown were great. Very attractive book. I picked it up for ideas and got plenty!

I think I was on a Red Hat Society shopping spree and don't remember ordering, but when I starting thumbing thru it, I really like some of the ideas.

I'm a Red Hatter and I love the ideas in this book. I can also "borrow" from the ideas and use non-Red Hatting supplies to do my "regular" scrapbooking projects as well.

There are so many fun ways to create pages for Red Hatters!!! I also had to purchase a copy of this book, not for just the great ideas of scrapbooking but because I'm featured in a couple of the photos. If you're a Red Hatter this is one book to have!
