This review is from: A Designer's Book of Bridal Gowns (Paperback)
I borrowed this book from a friend and I am so glad that I did not buy it. Reading through the table of contents it would appear that this book has exhaustive coverage of bridal gowns but I found that this was not the case. I felt like I reread a lot of the same information more than once. If you do decide to get this book, save yourself some trouble and skip most of the middle chapters and go straight to the synopsis by body types. Most of the information that is pertinent to you from the earlier chapters is repeated there (This book could stand to be better organized.)
The one thing the book does have that is kind of fun is that the last 50 pages or so are outlines of the various parts of the gowns (bodices, sleeves, skirts and etc.) that you can use to create your own gown using tracing paper and mixing and matching the different parts of the gowns with each other. I almost felt like I was five again and playing with paper dolls. Most wedding books seem to have a section on what types of gowns look best on which body types, but if you decide that you need a whole book I would recommend The Wedding Gown Book by Elizabeth Shimer (ISBN# 1-59253-066-4) instead. It is less expensive, better organized, in full color, has more natural divisions (between the types of gowns and brides), and also has a section to help pick out dresses for your bridesmaids.
