I love these books! I have had them maybe 3 weeks so far, but I have gotten so much use from them. Every page has something of use and I love the way the books are organized. I wanted to get all the three books in this kit, so I bought them all together instead of seperately. The case is a great asset to this set. Everywhere I go, someone has to comment on the case. "What is that?" they ask. "That's so cool!" others say. It's really interesting how people are so involved with this nifty box. Must buy! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

This combination is great. You get the Index, the Color and the Layout all in one. In particular, it has evolutions. It takes a layout, and you watch the progression of it and the different layouts for the same information with differing media.

I didn't realize these books were so small, about 6" tall and come in a little clear case. But the content is great, I love HOW, and i love HOW Design Books. Very idea inspiring, I would definitely recommend, and Amazon sells it for quite a discount.

I am a web designer/developer and the only book that is really useful for me in this 3 book series was the color index.

The layout and idea book has examples that were not really innovative and looked like designs from the late 90s and has pictures that look like its out of a outdated clip art collection. Could of taken it a bit further with much more vibrant and up to date examples.

I would recommend this to students and graphic designers just starting in the field. I don't recommended this set to web designers but Color Index is pretty useful so just get that one book.

3 great books filled with ideas that will always keep your stuff looking fresh and new. I can't tell you how many times I've loaned the same 3 books out for hundreds of different reasons. Interior decorating, film design, set construction, flyers, clothing matching... you name it, these books help!

I saw these at my local bookstore and fell in love with them. I picked up this set as well as the "Design Basics Index" and "Type Idea Index". I'm a web designer with formal training in Graphic Design and I found these to be a great addition to my library. I've used them on several projects and even wrote a entry about them on my blog.

All of Jim Krause's books are incredibly inspiring. I particularly love this little set because it is housed in a great acrylic box that keeps the books together and is just too stinking cute!!

Though the clasped plexiglass box is quite comely and altogether unnecessary, the contents are well worth the price. I am an independent Graphic Designer and have found these little gems to be of great value not only with ideas but also for technical guidance as well. Don't let their small physical size fool you, every page is packed with helpful info. Plus they have durable vinyl covers and are small enough to take with you and throw in a bag or purse if you want. Krause is a master of design and you'll find a lot of food for thought here.

This is an amazing set of books for anyone who is even considering going into graphic design. The books cover everything you could want from color theory and schemes, to grid structure, graphic effects and all kinds of typographic treatments. The books have helped to inspire some of my own personal designs since i received them and i plan to reference them for many projects in the future. This is an amazing value for the money i spent!

If you want to see a lot of examples of color usage and layout of many different types of projects, this is an excellent place to start. The color index gives CMYK and RGB values for all colors, and groups them in themes. This is a good place to get started on a project.
