4.0 out of 5 stars Good light, but be gentle with it
A fine, bright light. When daylight savings time was over this light allowed me to finish several outdoor projects during the evening hours. I had to be careful as to how I positioned the light to avoid blinding local car traffic.

The lights weakness would be the the numerous twist-collars that lock the tripod into various positions. Don't over-tighten these...

The dual lights are so heavy that the stand wants to keep slipping down. It has 2 cheap plastic things that you are supposed to tighten to lock the stand at the desired height. They don't work very well unless you have three hands readily available (one to immobilize upper pole, two to tighten plastic screw-thing and three to immobilize lower pole) and are poorly constructed. The 2nd time I used the light stand I had to actually overtighten it to try to keep it from slipping down due to the weight of the lights.

Much to my dismay, I heard a popping sound which was the plastic breaking!!! Major bummer, since I'd only had the lights for 3 days. The actual lights do kick out some serious wattage as advertised once you get past the fact that the lights keep sliding down to about shin level! The few hours that it actually stayed at the desired full height, the base was so wobbly that I definitely wouldn't recommend leaving this unattended for the possible fire hazard risk involved.

Don't waste your money on this cheap product. You can do better.

3.0 out of 5 stars get the job done, November 24, 2007
This review is from: Designers Edge L-14 1000-Watt Twin-Head Adjustable Work Light with Telescoping Tripod Stand, Halogen (Tools & Home Improvement)
the tripod feels like it's going to fall apart but so far so good. Lights are great. I don't like with the lights not being able to shine down. It's ether straight or up not down. Over all it a good buy for the price and it gets the job done.

I bought this item and found no less than three problems with it when it arrived. One part was broken and a second was bent pretty badly. The third problem was a bolt hole was not properly machined and the bolt wouldn't fit through it. I contacted the manufacturer and they offered to ship me replacements for the two damaged parts, but the guy claimed he didn't have the part with the misshapen bolt hole and that I should "clean that up with a drill". So, I did, and then waited for the new parts to arrive. When they did, I found that NEITHER of them were the correct part! So, I shipped the whole unit back to Amazon and I'll buy a different brand. I'm also not a big fan of the "tripod base". The center pole actually sits flat on the ground along with the three legs, which make it really unsteady on ground that isn't level.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bought two - both had weak parts that broke "in the same place", December 26, 2011

This was purchased directly from Amazon (not from the manufacturer). I bought 2 of these for my garage work area. First of all, I'm not usually one to complain about a product if is built sturdy but had damage anyway. However, this product uses very thin plastic parts which is most significant where the tripod legs attach to the main center pole. When the legs were extended, one of the three leg hinges was broken off and swinging loose at the base of the main pole. **Then I opened the second box. I found the exact same damage in the same position. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Finding the same damage on two separate items isn't a coincidence. If you still deside to buy this product, look at the connection of the legs to the main pole and you will realize that you have to treat this product very carefully. Not exactly an ideal situation for any project.

Ordered three of this product and two were broken in the exact same spot, I think due to cheap materials and shoddy packing. Waste of time and effort mailing them back. The lights are extremely hot and now I worry about possible fire.

This is a well designed but poorly executed version of a shoplight. There are welds that make the parts up to 20 degrees off, and it is really, really hard to line up the screws and parts because they are not properly aligned. It does put out serious wattage and so uses lots of electricity, so it is good for heat generation in my winter garage, but I will not be using it for long periods or in the summer. Cheap price. Cheap product. It works.

1.0 out of 5 stars cracked plastic hub, February 10, 2011

This review is from: Designers Edge L-14 1000-Watt Twin-Head Adjustable Work Light with Telescoping Tripod Stand, Halogen (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was a bit surprised that some assembly was required, but that wasn't a big deal. Not too difficult to do. However, the center hub for all three lower links of the legs was made from plastic. It arrived cracked and I noticed that only after I spent time fully assembled the whole thing. Had to disassemble and send it back to Amazon. Amazon was great and took it back without questions. I was expecting a rugged outdoor work light, but was very surprised by the plastic hub that arrived cracked. I would not recommend this.

Great light for the price. The screw handles are a little hard to get real tight. It has worked great so far and the stand is a nice feature.
