I never leave reviews and if I do it's on the positive side but I had to leave this one because if this light did damage to anyone's property I would feel bad.

I purchased this about a week ago because it was cheap and it would give me extra light to do work around the house. I read the instructions, put it together and plugged it in. Within 5 minutes we smelt something burning and on a hunch I went over to the light and sure enough it was super hot. I quickly unplugged it to find that the front glass was completely shattered and parts of the paint were starting to melt. I know Halogen lights are hot but if we were not around this thing who knows what would have happened. The light is ruined and so are my spirits for this light. Great price, great service from Amazon but I would be scared to ever use one of these lights again.

These things are awesome. VERY cheap. You have to have extension cords for these cause the cord is only 1ft. long. And there's no switch so to turn them off you have to unplug them. Other than that. They are perfect and cheap. Great cheap solution to video/photo lighting.

I was hesitant to buy this reading everyone else's reviews, but I'm glad I did. I've probably used it for at least 30 hours, often 5-6 hours at a clip, and the bulb still works great (at the time I bought it, the reviews indicated if it lasted 5 hours you were lucky).

Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that its noticeably a bit cheap, and doesn't seem like it would hold up very long with daily use and travelling to job sites. If you just need it once in awhile for small jobs around the house, its perfect though.

UPDATE - Just used it for a full weekend of painting. Was probably on for about 20 hours over the weekend, and still going strong. Unit gets really HOT, but no more so than any other light like this. Would definitely recommend the bang for the buck.

This light does the job! I love it.

I do a lot of painting and something like this is invaluable when you are painting inside or outside at night! Yes you may have 'adequate' lighting inside, but for around twelve bucks you can have 500 watts of lighting pointed directly at the part of the wall you really need to see.

Ever paint something only later to see areas of varying color and sheen when light shines upon it? Well with something like this you'll never have that problem again. You'll see ALL the paint, and shade will never hide brush strokes again.

It is very difficult to find 500 watt bulbs anymore because they use so much power, and in general they are wasteful. One exception, I'd like to point out, is when you absolutely have got to have THAT light on THAT spot so that you can do the work that you need to do. This light is perfect for that purpose. It is a utility light, and one that is great for painting inside or outside, or working on your car. It is able to tilt up or down, but you can easily twist it side to side on the ground by the big looping handle.

Important Note: There is no on and off switch on this light. I highly recommend you purchase or use a 25 foot extension cord so that you can bring that glow whereever you need it to be.

A great value for the money.

I used this light to illuminate my back patio for beer pong parties. After hanging the light on a high post, the patio was approximately 15 by 20 ft, and was completely lit by a single one of these work lights with enough light to throw a 1 inch ping pong ball into plastic cups 3 inches wide. It stayed outdoors through rain without compromising its integrity. I recommend this product to anyone needing a bright light for outdoor beer pong parties any day.

I bought this item to light up the bay at night to attract fish and it works perfectly it was easy to assemble but you have to be careful about putting the bulb in other than that it is a good value I have not tested it in poor weather mostly warm seashore air at night

This light does get extremely hot, even after a few seconds of being plugged in. And the cord is only about five inches-so you do need an extension cord.

But other than that, it is extremely bright and durable. I got this one for half the price the hardware store wanted.
I say it's a buy!

My first impression while putting it together was its very cheaply made, but it works well. I use it mainly for camping and it worked fine even after bouncing around in a box on the back of my trailer going down bumpy dirt roads. I plugged it into the generator and it lit up my whole camp site. Its nice to warm your hands on too LOL

This unit arrived without a working bulb. I still haven't been able to get another, so the unit has been worthless. At $8-$9 for the entire unit, it almost isn't worth getting the bulb itself--might as well get an entirely new unit, except for the sour taste in my mouth from the first.

BIC ships faster than I write a review. How bright Is It? I do Not know, bright enough I could Not look straight at the light. I read about carbon arc search lights that use 18000 watts of power I would Imagine Halogen Is more efficient than carbon arc light. I have No Idea how much time they last but they all worked. I bought 2 then waited until to see If I could afford another one all 3 arrived In 4 days. How does It compare to more expensive brands? That depends on how much technical Improvements can be made or needs to be made, It has a plastic handle If You want to call that poor quality, and how would Improvements be made or a halogen element bulb that works? Maybe being able to purchase replacement bulbs. I would say unless You want something that will survive being ran over by a big Truck or something as that then this will work just fine.
