I bought three of these units. Installation, replacing non-motion-sensitive lights of similar size, was straightforward. I soldered all the connections rather than trusting to twisting bare wires together. This meant I needed larger acorn insulaters than were supplied, but that was not a problem. I like the flexible programming the lights allow, including a choice of dusk-to-dawn when needed. I installed compact fluorescent bulbs, providing lots of light for relatively little electricity consumption. Some electronic units are disturbed by compact fluorescents, but these are apparently immune. I shopped around before selecting this lamp -- it was significantly less expensive than others with similar features. Overall it is an excellent value.

We bought this as a replacement of our old Motion Activated Coach Lantern.
We believe it is from the same brand, it looks identical with very minor different in the wiring. The last one lasted 10 years and getting rusty and "moody" at times. This one does what it says. some minor adjustment was made to fit into our old fixture. We had to use the old screw, because it was longer than the new one.
otherwise a great light for the next ten years, we hope.

We installed this light facing a car travel lane 50 feet (15 meters) away on a fairly busy street. Even with the lowest setting, it stays on all night. it would have been nice to have an even lower setting. However, it's a good looking, well made light, which was delivered as promised for a good price, so we're very pleased with the purchase.

I had a tough time finding such lights that serve the purpose and also look good.

1. This does NOT have the low output setting... that is... the bulb glowing softer than normal as continuous operation and only glowing louder when triggered by motion sensor. This isn't for you if THAT is what you want.
2. I would give the paint quality 4 out of 5 but overall build quality 5 out of 5.
3. The highest sensitivity setting may not be good for those who want a large distance covered. By "distance", I mean, how far away from you want the sensor to trigger the light. Mine triggers around 8-10 ft displacement from the sensor which is fine for me.
4. Installation was easy and it worked just as expected. This was not the case with the previous lights I had purchased from Lowe's. Newbee note: Just remember to install correctly. These products have 4 wires instead of the 3 in normal lamps. The 4th wire is for the next-in-series lamp that you might want to control by THIS light's motion sensor... so that both come on when THIS light's motion sensor is triggered. Just don't connect that 4th wire to anything if you don't need to and it should work as normal.
5. For those times when you need it on while gulping beer in your patio... switch on and off 3 times in 3 seconds to toggle from sensor mode to always on mode. If u forget to toggle back to sensor mode, the always on mode turns back to sensor mode next morning... assuming there's sun showing up in your patio the next morning.
6. If my budget is the same and I don't need a low setting light, I will purchase this again instead of running around and comparing a million others.

This is an attractive lantern that provides ample lighting as well as security. I really like that it can be set as a dusk to dawn light or motion detection. It is great for approaching the front steps and the light illuminates the area. I used to leave a porch light on all night long (early evening until I leave for work in the mornings), so this offers a more cost efficient lighting option.

Update three months later: Working flawlessly. As I approach the porch, the light comes on, and provides safe illumination and allows me to easily find the lock for the house key. It is stylish and attractive.

I purchased this outdoor light to replace an older light that was not motion-activated. Works great when I come home in the dark and need to see to unlock the door. Was very easy to install!

Fairly easy to install. Works as advertised as either motion sensing or dawn to dusk light.

Great porch light, great quality. It has a great contemporary look. You can choose to mount the bottom long extension so it looks more traditional like a lantern, or not mount it for an more contemporary look like in the image photo. Dusk to dawn feature works perfectly. Sensitivity settings are great. Hardware quality is solid. Buy this lamp.

Honestly, one of the best things that I've ever purchased for my home. The style is classy and the product is of excellent quality. It's such a small thing, really, but it is SO AMAZING to never have to worry about turning on/off the outside lights. Someone is dropping by tonight? No worry. We're going to be gone for a few days? No problem. The lights are on when they need to be on and off when they don't. I use the dusk-to-dawn setting since it was going to be difficult to wire the motion sensors in series and I thought it would be tacky to potentially have the lights out of sync. Between these sconces and the Heath Zenith SL-4305-WH Motion-Activated Five-Sided Porch Light, White Brass with Frosted Glass at my front door, I am in complete never-have-to-worry-about-any-outside-light bliss! My only regret is not upgrading to these about 3 years earlier.

I really like the look of the Designers Edge L-255pw 15 1/2 inch motion activated outdoor light. However I did not receive the light as pictured. The one I received has a long stem extending down from the center of the bottom of the lamp. The picute shows a very short stem. I kept it as the electrician was ready to install it to the side of my home.The pricing seemed fair, and it does look great!
