Designers Edge Halogen flood lamp

As of this writing, Amazon sells four virtually identical 500 watt outdoor halogen floodlights, in bronze or white. They are sold under these names:

RAB Quartz Flood 500 watts
Designers Edge L-50BR 500-Watt Halogen Floodlight
Heath Zenith SL-5505-BZ 500 Watt Halogen Floodlight
Light Fld Hal QZ 500W

Bulb replacement for these lamps is terrible. To replace a bulb, slide two clips [holding the unframed glass lens] out of the way and carefully remove that glass without cutting yourself. Typically, the glass will be stuck to the rubber gasket and has to be pried off - which is risky, since prying could crack the glass, plus it could be dropped. Imagine doing that high up on ladder, where you'll need to find a place to keep the glass while replacing the old bulb!

Summary:

Even though overall lamp quality is OK, bulb replacement is so bad, my advice is to avoid this product.

If you want the best designed lamp, get the Lithonia 500 watt flood light. Search Amazon on: visor halogen flood


Relamping:

It's not uncommon for aging outdoor halogen flood bulb-holder contacts to corrode, killing your lamp. Once those contacts corrode, you'll need to replace the lamp. To curtail corrosion on your new lamp, apply a tiny dab of electrical contact grease on the halogen flood bulb ends prior to installing. Dielectric grease seems to work just as well as an anti-corrosion measure, even though it doesn't conduct electricity.
