I recommend purchasing this light over its cheaper competitors.

It doesn't have the focused "hot spot" of typical flood lights, it's a nice even bright glow.

Thus, the light is fine for lighting close-in work areas, typical of automotive repairs.

I purchased this light probably 2 years ago (if not more) for work. I do lineman work during the night shift. My utility truck is not equipped with any exterior work lights and I needed something that could work as hard as I do. This light exceeded my expectations in every way.

Firstly, it's tough. I'm sure it's withstood AT LEAST a dozen falls from 10 feet down to pavement. Probably closer to 2-3 dozen. Never did it flicker, never did it crack, never did it show signs of failure. The paint shows some scars, as anything metal would after falling 10 feet to asphault repeatedly, but that's no let down to me. Every time I've placed it somewhere unstable and watched it fall, my heart stopped for a second. Then I'd bend over and pick it up, light still shining bright. I enjoy an ear to ear grin while my coworkers make statements of envy. If you drop a halogen flood you better have a spare bulb. Not this. Not a single LED is out.

Second, it's bright! Working the night shift for years, you become a flashlight enthusiast. I've probably spent over a G collectively on high end lights, flashlight upgrades, work lights, spot lights, flood lights, you name it. Nothing I've owned lights up a 12 foot by 12 foot work area like this light. It's a clean, clear, white, cool light. It's very powerful and very even. Some halogen floods seem brighter, but they're hot, ineffecient, and they produce a yellowish light. The clean white nature of this light enhances my visibility more than a "brighter" halogen. It doesn't have the focused "hot spot" of typical flood lights, it's a nice even bright glow. Best, after hours of steady use I can pick it up and touch any spot on the light without coming close to worrying about burning myself.

Most importantly I wanted something for work that used the latest durable/indestructable highly efficient LED bulbs powered by the latest lithium type battery pack. The Designers Edge L1301 seemed to fill both of those criteria. I was impressed with brightness and lightness of this product. I was looking for something portable for work that could illuminate a large area. I found the Designers Edge L1301 to be the ideal solution. Small enough to take minimal space in the truck, but bright enough to illuminate a large work area. I even found it light enough to hold up in the air with one hand while working with the other. It was very helpful on a recent drywall project in finding those surface imperfections. Overall am very impressed with the longevity of the charge and would definately buy again. I sometimes wish it had a taller stand in some cases..... but then that would make it bigger to move around. I have even used it in photography for backlighting. I never would have dreamed I would use it for that.....Well done Designers Edge.

This is a decent work light as the output allows you to work 15 feet away and still see what you're doing. However, it is NOT 1600 lumens as advertised. It looks nowhere near 1600 lumens and is even advertised on the L1301 box as 438 lumens. I'm not sure where they pulled 1600 lumens from for this listing. Again, it is a pretty solid workshop light but you will be severely disappointed if you're expecting 1600 lumens of output.

Worth the money but could have more battery capacity. Pretty bright and rechargeable is really nice. Would be nice if it had a magnet or something to keep the light where you want it.
