The Beautiful Bride,
By
This review is from: Designing Bridal Veils, Headpieces, and Hats (Plastic Comb)
After going through 3 weddings for my sisters and then my own, I can honestly say that one place bridal salons will gouge you is through the veil. For the labor and materials, they are definitely overpriced. If you have the time and a little talent, or someone who can help you, you should consider making your own. This book is unique because it not only has illustrations and detailed directions, but it also has fabric samples to touch and see to decide what materials to use for your veil. Unfortunately, many of the ideas are "80ish", lots of frills and pouf, but if you can go beyond that, this is a valuable guide.

Excellent resource for those wanting professional quality!,

This is the most professional and informative book I've found concerning bridal veil construction. It is very detailed including techniques for creating your own frames, several patterns for veils, and numerous techniques for creating and decorating any veil. Some of the styles it shows may be outdated, but the techniques taught are timeless. It is packed with information and has samples of harder to find fabrics and millinery materials.
I'm far more interested in content than binding. This isn't a beautiful coffee style book for those wanting pretty pictures to look at. This is a spiral bound compilation of several detailed handouts from the author. Neither is a book for beginners. It clearly states that you should have hand sewing experience. I own all the wedding gown, evening gown, and bridal veil construction books Amazon has to offer plus several vintage books. I've made or altered dozens of wedding and evening gowns and made several veils. This is the most thorough book on veils I've found. You will be able to create a professional looking veil and not just one that looks like "Mom" made it. If you only want pictures of current veils, save your money and buy a bridal magazine. For those with the skills and desire to create a beautiful, professionally finished veil, I highly recommend it.

This book is 100% more than I expected. Absolutely great for designers and artists
who wish to create beautiful headpieces. I have two hat books, "From The Neck Up" and "Hats Design and Construction"(by the same author as this one) that rate up with this new one I just received. If you are a milliner, or want to learn to be..order all three of these books! I am a costume designer, both for myself as a Stevie Nicks Tribute artist, with White Winged Dove, and a seller of custom made finery, I love this book, and you will enjoy it, too...classy, well done, easy to follow, and inspiring!

This was informative however I was expecting a proper book not a spiral bound booklet.

Designing Bridal Veils, Headpieces, and Hats
This book does exactly what the title states "Designing Bridal Veils." The reason that the book received two stars was because of the homemade quality of the pages. While the information is useful, the offset quality of the entire book is frustrating. This is definitely not for a novice, recommendClassic Millinery Techniques: A Complete Guide to Making & Designing Today's Hats The author must upgrade with publishing, high glossy photographs and current millinery techniques. What the author does excellent was add samples of the types of material needed to create a hat. Someone who is not familiar with these fabrics would find this information useful. Despite the two stars for the poor production quality, milliners should give this book a look over. However, if you are in a rush to get married, try something else! |
