Book Description

January 2, 1999
This course is much more than simply learning some licks that fit the chord progression! It shows you how to mold a simple bluegrass melody into a fancy, tasteful, driving guitar solo, a solo that sounds like the true melody of the song while being hot at the same time. Chris Jones analyzes and teaches 10 songs on these two one-hour tapes. Each solo is broken down into its component parts, with Chris explaining why he played what he played every step of the way. By learning this approach you will be able to invent your own intelligent, melodic solo for any bluegrass song.

Songs used: Used to Be, Rose of Old Kentucky, Your Love Is Like a Flower, Think Of What You've Done, I Wonder Where You Are Tonight, I Still Miss Someone, Why Don't You Tell Me So, White Dove, Banks of the Ohio, This Heart of Mine.

There are 2 ways to put a solo together: 1. Playing licks that fit the chord progression 2. Playing the melody & then embellishing it with ornamentation. *Ultimately, number 2 is the approach taken by the more refined experienced players. *Chris Jones, Dan Huckabee, & Paul Kramer teamed up in 1985 to formulate a procedure for teaching the "melody oriented" concept of solo development & have to date released 4 products that teach the subject. 1. Designing Guitar Solos for Bluegrass Songs (2 CDs/Book) 2. Designing Mandolin Solos for Bluegrass Songs (2 CDs/Book) 3. Creating guitar solos for bluegrass songs (VHS or DVD) 4. Creating guitar solos for banjo instrumentals (VHS or DVD) Choose one or all today... you will be enlightened to a deeper level!.

About the Author

In the early 1980's Chris Jones, Paul Kramer, and Dan Huckabee collaborated on an historic project. They conceived, developed, and refined the "formula" for how to make up your own solos for bluegrass songs. The concept proved a raging success with their private students, who found themselves equipped with a powerful and exciting new skill! . The enthusiastic response led to a book/audio combination entitled: "Designing Guitar Solos for Bluegrass Songs." Now 15 years later we proudly present this concept in VHS or DVD, with all new songs, plus the magic of video animation to make it even easier to understand!

Chris Jones leads his own band, Chris Jones & The Night Drivers, tours world-wide with his band, and has released 3 CDs. His latest release for Rebel Records has made both the Americana and Bluegrass charts. The title cut, co-written by Chris, reached number 5 on the National Bluegrass Survey. In addition to his soulful lead singing and songwriting, Chris's guitar work has led to a number of positions as a sideman in both bluegrass and country music, including stints with Vassar Clements, The McCarters, The Lynn Morris Band, Weary Hearts, and Special Consensus, among others. As a teacher, Chris has been chosen as an instructor by most of the major workshops and bluegrass camps in the U.S. and Canada, including the "Augusta Heritage Center" and "Nashcamp." He is also a columnist for "Flatpicking Guitar Magazine", & has released 3 audio courses: "The Bluegrass Wordbook", "The Bluegrass Songbook", and "Designing Guitar Solos For Bluegrass Songs"
