A step-by-step guide on how to design Web sites and information applications to take advantage of the explosive growth in mobile device access

Designing Wireless Information ServicesWith the dramatic increase in wireless access to the Internet, it's critical that your information is accessible to mobile users. This is the first book that clearly explains how to design user interfaces for mobile applications and Web sites that work in the mobile environment. Author Johan Hjelm cuts to the chase by showing how existing Web sites can be redesigned to work with wireless devices, cellular phones, and PDAs, and take advantage of the special properties of the current and next generation mobile networks. He provides step-by-step guidance on how to set up a Web site for mobile access using open standards such as the Wireless Application

Protocol (WAP) and XML. Explanations and case studies illustrate how the new technologies will work with existing database applications and systems.

Focusing on the underlying applications, this book will help you:
* Gain a better understanding of the new mobile systems market

1.0 out of 5 stars "Liberating Information from Its...Logical Location?", December 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Designing Wireless Information Services (Paperback)
A professional web developer, I expected, based on the description of this book, a practical guide to redeploying a client web site as a wireless application. Anything but a practical guide, this book presents nearly 400 pages of design philosophy, with tidbits of information scattered throughout. I've read the book, and I am no closer to finishing my project. This was a waste of my time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wap, Wap , Wap - NOT!, November 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Designing Wireless Information Services (Paperback)
Wireless information systems is not only Wap. It really is designing anything optimized for viewing on a cellphone. If you need a good, high-level overview of wireless information systems, this is the book. I can't realy recommend it for most technicians, as the market aspects may be too overwhelming and the basic concepts too daunting. But it is a very good guide guide on how to design sites and other services to take advantage of the mobile market.

This review is from: Designing Wireless Information Services (Paperback)
Overall, I think this covers the essentials of wireless. Since the wireless revolution will definately be bigger than the internet revolution, this book helps you to understand how to develop your wireless strategy from design phase to implementation.
