I enjoy Ruth Heller's Designs for Coloring: Cats more than some of the other coloring books in this series. I enjoy the mixture of "realistic" cats and "artistic" cats, as well as the mixture of house cats and big cats.

The primary complaint I have about the books in this series, including Cats, is that I would rather have a greater variety of pictures rather than reptetition of the same image only resized or multiplied.

Not the best coloring book I've ever had, but not the worst either.

My 5-year-old daughter loves cats and she loves to color, so her liking this coloring book was not a surprise. We came upon this coloring book at a restaurant we visited, where they had cut out pages from this book. This restaurant is now called the Cat Restaurant.

So when I found this book (and another), I ordered it for special occasions and I ordered one for a friend of my daughter's who also loves cats.

The outlines are not thick and finite--always connecting to something. The drawings are pretty and dainty, with lots of lines used for detail and not forming shapes. This is good because you don't have to stay in the lines (can't really in many instances) and there is the freedom to color, say, rainbow kitties. But if your child must have definition and needs to know where to stop drawing, this may not be the best option. This is not a traditional coloring book.

I received this book as a gift for Christmas when I was about 8 years old and that was over 25 years ago. I just bought this book for my 7 year old niece, who saw my book, which still has a few pics left in it to color and wanted the same one. In 25 + years the only thing that has changed is the price. She loves using her colored pencils, which is the easiest medium to use. I love the fact that most of the pictures comes in threes, a large, medium and small version of the same pic. I have bought many of these books, different subject, same author and still love them. They are good to bring out on a stressful day. I recommend this coloring book for kids that are coloring in the lines through adults.

I like the idea of several images on the same page--you can see your different ideas without having to keep turning pages. On the downside, it would have been nice to see more pages included.

My children love it, very good for cat lovers or any kid, the pictures are very cute and real. I highly recommend.
