About the Author

Bonnie enjoys teaching others to quilt. Teaching has taken her to guilds and conferences across the United States, and to Austrailia, Turkey, and Japan. But, one of Bonnie's favorite teaching dates is with grade school-age children at the Quilt Camp for Kids, held each July at the Museum of the American Quilter's Society. Bonnie's articles have appeared in American Quilter and McCall's Quilting, and she has shared quilting techniques on Simply Quilts on HGTV. In addition to writing and teaching, Bonnie is involved in other facets of quilting. She is a certified quilt judge and judges at several conferences each year. More About the Author

Bonnie is a recognized figure within the world of quilting. She has served as executive show director for the American Quilter's Society's quilt shows for more than 16 years. She studied art and design in college, and was certified as a master quilt judge in 1986. Bonnie's quiltmaking skills are exemplified by the number of awards she has won; two of her quilts, "A Little Bit of Candlewicking" and "Smitten with Flowers," are in the collection of The National Quilt Museum of the United States of America, located in Paducah, Kentucky. She also has two quilts in the Artists of Iowa Collection, Waterloo, Iowa - her quilts were the first textiles added to this prestigious collection of work by Iowa artists.

Bonnie has authored nine quilting books using updated techniques for making traditional quilts, as well as writing for the AQS OnPoint e-newsletter and editing other AQS books. She is a popular quilting instructor who teaches across the U.S., and has traveled to several countries to teach or judge - Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Japan for the Great International Quilt Festival, Switzerland, and Turkey at the invitation of the Turkish Minister of Culture. As show director and professional quilter, Bonnie works with all types of media (print, radio, and television), and has appeared as a guest on Simply Quilts (HGTV); Sew Young Sew Fun (PBS); Quilts, Secrets Hidden in Fabric (HGTV Special Presentation), American Quilter TV show, and TheQuiltShow.com, and regularly does interviews with local and national media on quilt-related topics.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not much help...., September 5, 2004
This review is from: Designs on Freedom (Paperback)
This is a book of line drawings of patriotic themes, such as eagles, the Statue of Liberty, laurel wreaths, etc. It is what you would expect to find in a child's coloring book. I saw this author on Alex Anderson's quilting show and was very impressed by her. I'll check out her other books, but this one has very limited use. It is not about technique or even quilting, just drawings for whatever use you would find for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good graphic designs for applique, embroidery, or painting, September 29, 2004
This review is from: Designs on Freedom (Paperback)
If you are looking for patriotic designs, this book has a good variety...from flags, eagles, statue of liberty, military emblems, airplanes and other vehicles. Great if you are making a "guy" quilt. Can be used for applique, painting, embroidery. You can scan the images to make your own digitized embroidery patterns too.
