Not for beginners.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Designs for Knitting Kilt Hose (Paperback)
While this book is not for beginners, it is a wonderful resource for turnover cuff patterns. Steeped in tradition, and collected by the Dowager Lady Veronica. It even gives you a glimpse into the personality of this wonderful Lady through some of the letters written to the publisher. If you are familiar with making your own socks, this is for you. The top can be adapted onto a pattern for kneesocks, for those who wish a full sock pattern. The author's hope is to inspire you to create. My copy is well worn, and I haven't even started on one yet [all those wonderful choices]. This book is worth it's price for the nostalgia alone.

interesting historically, and straightforward enough for a sock knitter,

No, it's not for beginners... and it might be better to think of the book as a historical piece. The author assumes the reader has some idea of what they're doing- in fact, that the reader knows how to knit socks- for what woman wouldn't? Or even some gentlemen? It concentrates on patterns for the "tops" for kilt hose. I am sure my father will be delighted with his when they're done. Then, some for my fiance!

This is a very good book for the designs for the different cuffs. It does give you a pattern for the sock, but does not give any info for how much yarn would be needed to make the socks.
