4.0 out of 5 stars "I love a ship stowaway romance story"
I really enjoyed this book. The best parts of the story takes place at sea. I like the fact that some of the story also takes place in America, which is rare in the romance story I usually read. The hero is a captain. He is handsome and stern and quite time enough for the heroine who happens to be a bit head strong. I usually don't really like a head strong heroine...

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh..it was o.k.
I have to say although I truly loved Colette's story in When His Kiss is Wicked, I really did not like Juliette. It wasn't that the story itself was bad, it was that Juliette is a very hard character to LIKE. I think that Ms. O'Riley did the best she could with the character she had created for Juliette Hamilton. She is a spoiled, self-centered brat and all she cares...

The hero is a captain. He is handsome and stern and quite time enough for the heroine who happens to be a bit head strong. I usually don't really like a head strong heroine. But the hero sure made up for that. I like Kailin O'Rileys books. So far I have enjoyed each one. I'm really enjoying this series. I can't wait to read the sister Lisette's story. I'm also would like to see who falls for Jeffery.

I absolutely love this series, and so far, I've found a favorite in this particular book because of the heroine. Juliette is strong, passionate, and smart, all of which comes through in the author's deft weaving of the plot, and in her captivating dialogue between Juliette and Harrison. The tension between the two just keeps building as the book progresses, and I found I had a hard time putting this one down. I can't wait to read the next one in the series about the third sister, Lisette!

She is a spoiled, self-centered brat and all she cares about is pleasing herself. I was REALLY hoping that in this story she would get her eyes opened to how awful she had been and it would humble her, but she doesn't and it doesn't.
One of the worst things that wasn't even really discussed is that she leaves without a WORD to her big sister and supposed best friend who is nine months pregnant and getting ready to deliver her nephew any minute! What kind of person would put a very pregnant sister through that kind of worry and emotional torture? As I said, she's just really hard to like.
Harrison is a great lead though and it's fun to see the sisters again and watch Colette and Lucien's love continue to grow for one another.
I will still read the rest of the series because, like I said I think that she did as much as she could with a weak, selfish character in this book and I like the other sisters much better so there's still hope for book #3!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this one!, March 10, 2010
This review is from: Desire In His Eyes (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
I just finished Desire In His Eyes and I absolutely loved it. I read it all in one night because I could not put it down! The tension and dialogue between the characters is incredible. Juliette is such a spirited and fiery heroine and Harrison is so sexy. I can't wait for the next story about the Hamilton sisters!

2.0 out of 5 stars Never wamed up to the heroine..., July 20, 2010

We meet Juiliette in the first book of this series, "When His Kiss is Wicked". I think that the hope is she has grown up in the time between stories, but she hasn't. She means well, but she's really very selfish and thoughtless, and I don't understand the attraction that Harrison feels for the Juliette; other than the purely physical. I barely finished the book as I just didn't care if these two ended up together. I guess my hope was that Juliette would face some kind of hardship which would force her to rise above her self-centeredness and grow up, but it never happened. Not a good sign for a romance when I end up hoping that the hero dumps the obnoxious heroine and finds himself a REAL woman.

As the second sister in the series, I knew that Juliette's story wouldn't be like her sister Colette's (When His Kiss is Wicked) and I wasn't disappointed...O'Riley continues to weave her spellbinding romantic powers through her amazing dialogue, her sexy scenes and her believable characters. Like all of her books, this one was a page turner...another sleepless night for me because I couldn't stop reading until I finished her book! I can't wait for her next one as I love reading a series...she incorporates all of the sisters in her books so that you feel like you know them all already...you don't seem to have to read them in order because she lets you know who everyone is in each one, but I wouldn't take the chance on missing out on one detail...this is a must read author...and most definitely, a must read series! Enjoy! Just make sure you have time to read all night long because you won't want to put this book down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this heroine!, March 10, 2010
This review is from: Desire In His Eyes (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book and the heroine. It's so nice (and a welcome change) to read about a girl who is fearless and refuses to let a male dominated society stop her from trying to realize her dreams. This story is sexy and exciting. Juliette is a strong, independent, curious and yet very feminine woman who meets her match and the fireworks are amazing. It's like the Fourth of July. Juliette is reminicent of Scarlet O'Hara and let's no one not even the amazingly handsome and masculine Harrison tell her what to do. The sexual tension and adventure on the high seas was thrilling to read. I didn't want this story to end. Juliette is so different from her sister Colette (When His Kiss is Wicked) that I can't wait to read about the rest of the Hamilton sisters. Going to read it again. Jane, Los Angeles

3.0 out of 5 stars A mediocre read.., April 5, 2010

This is the first book I've read from this author. The premise sounded promising but after taking a few days to get through it, I guess I have to decide it was just an average read. I didn't particularly have any problems with the character of the hero/heroine as other reviewers have said. My problem was mostly with the flow of the story. It felt like the 'climax' was quite early on, i.e during the first third of the book. And after that all the passion/intensity sort of fizzled out and I was no longer intrigued with the story. I could easily put the book down (which I did more than once) and do other things and forget what just happened. As for the author's writing style, it was somewhat lacking in emotion/depth. I couldn't really get pulled into the h/h's relationship. Didn't really connect with them. I think I was more interested in the secondary character, Juliette's good friend Jeffrey, who sounds like he'll be a love interest for one of Juliette's younger sisters in the upcoming books.. at least I'm hoping.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hero is fine, heroine isn't, March 10, 2010
This review is from: Desire In His Eyes (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
Book two in Kaitlin ORiley's Hamilton series, Desire in his Eyes lacks the charm of the first novel in this series and this is solely due to the heroine who I found to be irrational and self centered.

Juliette Hamilton longs for adventure and she finds it when she stows away on Captain Harrison Fleming's ship. She finally can be free of the restrictive London life. She leaves her family a note telling them she is sailing away to America to visit her friend in New York City.

Captain Fleming is not pleased to find Juliette on his ship. He is a good friend of Juliette's brother-in law and now is duty bound to protect her. Juliet hates that she cannot have all the freedom she desires onboard (I guess she forgot she was a stowaway) and she finds ways to aggravate the captain. This is a tired plot devise of a stowaway being as demanding as the Captain. While at sea these two become lovers fairly quickly and when Harrison insists they marry Juliette runs off as soon as they get to New York without even a goodbye to the Captain. The reader will see that escaping is Juliette's favorite way of not dealing with problems.

Juliette is not all that happy in New York until her dear friend Jeffery is sent over by the family to retrieve her. Now Juliette can have fun and see the city (Everything is all about her). Even when she is told how selfish she is by leaving her family without a thought of their feelings, this does not deter her from having some more adventures.

Eventually Jeffery and Juliette visit Harrison's New Jersey home and here Juliet and Harrison try to rekindle their romance. Harrison is deeper than Juliet credits him. He is a self made man, successful through hard work and he is kind. He is taking care of a sister who appears mentally unbalanced. (BTW I did not like how eerie this sister appeared nor was there a tidy resolution to her story)

Juliette has a live for today attitude and her self centeredness was off putting. She truly did not consider how her actions affect others. In fact, when she is confronted with her selfishness and hypocrisy she just does not care. I wondered why Harrison found her to be so worthy of his affections.

This novel was a surprise for me as I have so enjoyed Ms. O'Riley's other novels but Juliette was a heroine I just could not empathize with and therefore this story lacked the magic of her other books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Like the author, but do NOT like the heroine, March 9, 2010

This review is from: Desire In His Eyes (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
This second in the Hamilton sisters' series focuses on second sister Juliette who runs away from her home in London and sneaks aboard the ship of family friend Captain Harrison Fleming. Harrison is headed for New York and is too far out to sea by the time Juliette is discovered to turn the ship around. Juliet has long dreamed of escape and adventure and is now thrilled to have the opportunity. Harrison is none too pleased to have a stow-a-way on board, least of all a beautiful and headstrong one. She is difficult and distracting and - despite his best efforts - impossible to resist...

I was not crazy about Juliette in the last book, but I like this author and expected that Juliette would improve once she had her own story. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. She is stubborn, reckless, self-centered, and extremely immature...to the point that it is hard to understand what Harrison sees in her. I realize that she is beautiful and that her independent nature is refreshing when compared with Harrison's needy sister...but for me this is not enough to explain the attraction. And her easy dismissal of their intimacy - TWICE - very much bothers me. It is improbable, thoughtless, and unlikely for the times.

On the plus side, I like O'Riley's easy style of writing, the Hamilton sisters and their extended family, and the often exhilarating love scenes and verbal exchanges between Harrison and Juliette. Unfortunately, I just do not like Juliette.
