5.0 out of 5 stars Why is this out of print in the US?, July 28, 2000
By Philip Manitta (Troy, NY United States) - See all my reviews
Well I finally shelled out the cash for the Japanese version of this disc and I was blown away.

After three straight albums of doing outside writers' songs and being moulded into "Survivor-Ette" by Ron Nevison, Heart comes back with the first album of primarily their own material in over a decade. And does it Rock? OOHHH Baby! IT ROCKS!

In a way this is sort of the quintessential Heart album. For one thing, the complexity of their earlier albums is back since they aren't stuck doing three-chord Diane Warren and Mutt Lange songs. But the edgier, modern production of the Heart/Bad_Animals/Brigade years is there too. The combination makes this album truly smoke.

Better yet, this album has the best sound mix of ANY Heart album. Somebody finally managed to figure out how to give Nancy and Howard their biting wall-of-sound guitar tones without burying the bass!

This album has some of Heart's most agressive rockers (Black on Black, Rage) as well as some incredibly tender ballads (Woman in me, Anything is Possible) and there really is no weak track on the whole disc.

I'm having a really hard time figuring out why this disc is out of print, when the tankers like Private Audition and Passionworks are still floating around.

If your debating picking up this album because you aren't familiar with any of the songs.... stop debating and just buy it. If you've ever been a Heart fan, there is something on this for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars a lost classic, December 18, 1999
By S. Foster (Moira, Co Armagh United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Since 1985's Heart album was released (I was only 12 @ the time) I have been taken aback by the refreshing vocals that the Wilson sisters provided and the original AOR soft rock that they produced. However it is this album (4 down the line after Bad Animals, Brigade and Rock The House) which truly showcases their extreme talent and versatility combining rok trax which knock a bull sidewayz, and folk/acoustic ballads with amazing 2 part harmonies.

Principal rockers Black on Black Part II demonstrates Ann Wilson's voice in all its power, while Rage rakes along with an amazingly catchy guitar hook. The title trak also packs a punch, albeit with slightly less aggressive vocal but with amazing guitar riffs and imaginative samples.

It is such a pity that this album did not yield the hits it should have: Will You Be There is not the most amazing Heart track, but it does showcase celestial harmonies, and Ann's lead vocal on Anything Is Possible (not the Debbie Gibson trak!) is potential stadium material. Her voice is unshielded, dense and emotive. A TRUE Diva who deserves more recognition. Here's hoping that they yield an equivalent to this very soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Amazing Heart, February 9, 2000
I have been a Heart fan since day one and everything they do impress me, though this CD is still one of my favourite`s. I love the way that the band puts their music and lyric together. It seems that Heart have made a huge impact to my life and I can only say Thanks. My all time favourite song on this CD is WOMEN IN ME even though it is a re make the way the Wilson Sister provide their special blend of emotion and vocal technique makes this song fantastic in every sense of the word. Thanks Heart for providing a fantastic CD. Paul
