First off let me clarify, this is not a paid review. As a matter of fact the author of the e-book does not even know I have read the book yet. :) All of the thoughts posted here are my sincere thoughts of the book, and not in any way influenced, good or bad, by anyone else.

My friend over at Momma's Time had a new button on her side bar. This button caught my eye, so like any curious person, I clicked it. It led me to the website for Desires of My Heart, an e-book written by Heather Bixler. Knowing that Heather is a woman of great faith and that our mutual friend would not link to something that was not worth reading, I checked it out.

Because I am reading the Bible in 90 days, I do not have a lot of time to read. Unfortunately I am home with a sinus infection. Fortunately this has given me time to read. So, I picked up my Kindle and started reading.

Desires of My Heart is an ebook written by Heather Bixler based on Psalm 37:4:

Heather really made me think while reading this e-book. I found myself questioning my motives for so many things. Ironically, I even found myself questioning my motive for reading through the Bible in 90 days, rather reading at "my own pace."

You see, often times Christians do things they way they want to do them, and pray for what they really want. They do not slow down long enough to prayerfully consider what God wants us to do. This is painfully obvious in so many facets of my life at this moment.

I will not go into all the areas of my life that need work. That is not what the purpose of this post is about. I am going to tell you that Heather is a gifted writer and she had the input and "faith stories" of three women who share her vision and heart for God. While I only know one of these three women who shared their stories, they all three moved my heart strings and reminded me that there is so much more than what I want, and if I would just align my desires with God's desires for my life, I would live a much richer and fulfilling life than I have now. I may not have more money or more possessions, but I would be more content with the direction of my life. I might even find what I am looking for, and that would be who am I and where am I supposed to be headed at this point in my life.

I encourage you to prayerfully read this book. It could change your heart.

Desires of My Heart - Meditation on Psalm 37:4 by Heather Bixler is a heart-warming and inspiring eBook devotional based on Psalm 37:4, which says "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart" (NIV).

Two things struck a chord with me ~ the discussion on brokenness and Debbie's Faith Story. We cannot delight ourselves in the Lord without being broken! I love Psalm 51:17, "The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God" (NLT). And Debbie's testimony of supernatural provision by God in these challenging times is an encouragement for every one of us to delight ourselves in the Lord!

The author concludes by informing us that "through our delight in [God], He is glorified. And that is all that truly matters in this life." I couldn't agree more!

I recommend it! I will award it 5 stars out of 5.

It is always interesting who gets attracted to particular books and why. I will lay claim that there are many that know and love Psalm 27:4 and perhaps because it lays claim that our heart's desire will be given to us. Oh sure we delight in Him- or we at least think we do. Revelation- many do not delight in Him the way He would like us to!
Author Heather Bixler's e- book Desires of my Heart opens up a storehouse of wisdom we need to gleam from to properly align ourselves with the will of God. She shows that many align themselves with family and church doing good acts but run into the danger that can default to performance based religion.
Simple in theory yet the reality is many of us struggle with being transparent before God and trusting Him. While He calls us to focus on Him inwardly, Bixler states that pride and control often overrule which moves us further away from our goal of knowing Him intimately. She declares " When we learn to let God show us the truth about our self, we finally have a heart that is delighted in Him." It is our desire for the thing we want more than God that we must let go of. Delighting in Him will require humility in our confession that we need Him.

The main challenging area I found in this book was whether or not we will be willing to open up our heart to God and the Holy Spirit and allow them to guide our lives completely. You will discover God loves our time and through our love and devotion to Him, delights fully to give us our desires as they will then line up with His will.

Heather Bixler's heart in writing this book was spurned on by the Holy Spirit as she shares her struggles and the heart-felt lessons she learned along the way. Her greatest treasure, and one she shares with us is that it drew her heart closer to His.

Be willing to be challenged and may you forever look at this verse with not only greater understanding but a greater desire to operate by the truths in which it reveals.
