5.0 out of 5 stars The Desk---A MUST read...
I must commend the talents of Jonna Turner!!!! I just completed THE DESK and found myself unable to put it down. I liked it so much that I had to purchase her next book, NEW PICTURES OF AN OLD MURDER, right away and can't wait to start reading it. The Desk is an easy read and goes at a fast pace from start to the edge-of-your-seat end!!!! A+++

Jonna Turner's book combines the style of Nancy Drew, the angst of afternoon television soaps, the fantasy of a bored traveller in Memphis, and a good but incredulous plot to provide a couple hours of fast read entertainment. Her main character Jeagan is refreshingly unpretentious and so naive, that an aspiring Agathe Christie or Nancy Drew will find him or herself at home in her shoes. Here is a character more concerned about matching her outfits than analyzing her clues. Still Jonna Turner is a fresh and promising author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Touch of Memphis, October 22, 2002

I very much enjoyed this book I think in part because of the setting in Memphis. The Memphis backdrop really made the book come to life for me having lived in Memphis for years.

The storyline of the desk actually being the catalist to set the story in motion was very interesting. It was a book I read from start to finish in one sitting, not just because it was less than 200 pages, but because it was intriguing and I had to find out how it ended.

It's a great book to sit down on a rainy Sunday afternoon and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of The Desk, August 30, 2002

If you are tired of books based on sex and violence the this the the book for you. It is one of the first works of a new, up and coming author, Jonna Turner. The Desk is a murder mystery with a supernatural twist. Ms.Turner was raised in Memphis, Tenn and the book centers there. It is a pleasure to read something that does not offend the senses and yet holds your attention. With the ending she gave us we will be looking forward to the next work by her.

Wow! It is a Great book, it keeps you guessing all the way. Very hard to put down. And I dont have time to read. They should put it on Books on tape. I'd read it again and I'll tell all my reading, FRIENDS to read it, as well.
I can't wait to read her other books.
It's right up there with Mauve Binchy, Glass Lake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Mystery!!, July 7, 2010
This review is from: The Desk (Paperback)
This is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining books that I have read in quite some time. It is a mystery set in Memphis Tennessee with the grand Peabody Hotel as its focal point. Plot and character development is superb and there are no "filler" pages in a story that wastes no time getting started and holds your interest and attention right to the end. Here is a good old fashioned mystery without sex, violence and four-letter words. The Desk and Jonna Turner are both gems in the current literary world. Get this book and read it.You won't be sorry.

Coloradan Jeagan Chistensen is hallucinating or going nuts! Either way she is having visions of a murder each time she sits at her new antique desk. The desk originally came from the elegant Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, where the murder was committed 50 years in the past. Investigate! Of course. Dangerous to prod a sleeping murder! Absolutely!
