5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!
Another wonderful offering from Le Tigre! They continue to put out their unique "low-fi" tunes with punk edges. The process of making this work was painstaking. Check out mrlady.com for FAQ's. Using a "clueless male" voice in the songs was a nice touch reminiscent of the song "White Boy" of early Bikini Kill. Strong "thinking"...

3.0 out of 5 stars okay, i guess.
the new le tigre is kind of a milquetoast type of affair. all the songs kind of have the same feel to it, a scrambled more laid back jumbled sound than the last album. less diverse. none of the songs are anywhere as startling or powerful as the debut album. there is a remix "the the empty" where they bring some of the vocals to the front, but the remix...

5.0 out of 5 stars As good or better!, January 24, 2001

"spittle" (Cleveland, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
The new ep from le Tigre, From the Desk of Mr. Lady, is as good or better then their first self titled release. The first song, (ironically enough as you're reading this)"Get off the interne"t is a bouncy scream fest; "Get off the internet!, I'll meet you in the street."

The whole thing is a rockin', danceable, battle cry.

5.0 out of 5 stars le tigre: this drum machine died and went to heaven, May 27, 2001

Cara Foley (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
Le Tigre is my very favorite band right now, thanks to this new record and seeing them live in NYC recently. If there is an unsung masterpiece out there right now, this is it. I was so excited when I saw this at the acursed virgin megastore when it was released that I bought it then and there, without a single complaint about commercializing record buying experiences or whatever. My roommate and I rocked out to this album all the way through finals. This album restores my faith in music made after 1998. With all of the lewd, reprehensible, sound-alike shock rap on the charts, it's great to hear something so fresh and relevant and proactive. Le Tigre is my favorite Kathleen Hanna project yet. Just buy it already, k?

3.0 out of 5 stars Great group, but more experimental offering, April 6, 2007

I've really gotten into Le Tigre and gotten pretty comfortable with the enormous range in styles from the dance-pop infectious TKO to the electronica-influenced Dyke March 2001 and softer but smart Well, Well, Well. From the Desk of Mr. Lady seems to push the boundaries, and is much more raw than most of their other works. It's worth getting to complete your collection, but it would probably be a lot harder to love this EP if you're only familiar with a few of Le Tigre's more popular songs. I still give them a lot of credit for creating some unique sounds and channeling some anger into an edgier compilation. "Hardcore" comes to mind in describing this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a man and I still worship Le Tigre, February 28, 2001
Le Tigre is making some of the most exciting music around...when i listen to them, i get the same feeling i got when i first heard Devo and Patti Smith and Wire and Gang Of Four and X-Ray Spex and all those great "art-punk" bands back in 1977 and '78.....

passionate, funny, intellectual, rocking, brave, and answering to NOBODY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why is everybody against this album!!, June 11, 2001
Post Bikini, Kathleen Hanna has been faulted for not sounding like BK, and while I can certainly emphathize with those people who want their favirote artist to sound a certain way, I also understand the artist's need for independence.

For independent artists, independence is not a trend or an option, but a principled stand. In fact, given the reality that this is true "alternative music" (as opposed to the MTV manufactured image) it is completely within LT's right to conceptualize an album how they ultimatley see fit.

Although the album is radically different from Le Tigre's first effort, I think of this as a challenge to fans, rather than a negative mark. Committed fans will recognize the depths provided by musical experimentation enhances the listening pleasure and makes for a more diverse CD.

Because feminism is still constructed as a movement for privlleged white women, it is important that the commentary on Diallo was included in this reccord. The interconnected nature of sexism and racisim require a multifacted response.

People who cannot open their minds to different perspectives on feminist/grrrl rock are just as counterproductive as the the chauvinist pig who leers at and molests girls in the mosh pit. Both individuals will only listen to their fellow being provided they meet a narrowly constructed interpretation of how they should or should not act.

I can't wait for the third album

4.0 out of 5 stars raw. fun. good., June 28, 2001
I was really pleased by this release. I had a hard time getting into the first Le Tigre and the Julie Ruin album. They were too low-quality sounding. I'm into lo-fi and four tracks, but, too me, those albums sounded like they were recorded with an old hand held tape recorder. From The Desk of Mr. Lady is fun, angry, and smart. It's accesible without being fluffy, and it stays away from the one-note, three chord, every song sounds the same tune that a lot of "tough" girl bands use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Selection From Le Tigre, July 15, 2007

If you are a fan of Le Tigre, you'll this latest edition of their off-beat style of music. I originaly fell in love with the band while watching the movie "Better Luck Tomorrow." Their song "Let's Run" is what originally drew me to the band. A nice alternative to most of the drab music on the radio.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Step Down, and Hopefully Just a Brief One, May 8, 2001
Don't let this be your introduction to Le Tigre. If you don't have anything from them yet, pick up their AMAZING self-titled debut LP. This EP is somewhat mediocre. The songs aren't too stand-out - some forgetable, some kinda awkward. It ends with a remix of "The The Empty" (a great song off their first album) that doesn't pack the punch of the original and offers no new twist, which is also a pretty good summery of the entire record. Le Tigre is capable of better and I look forward to their next release.
