Do NOT buy this printer, April 20, 2010
This review is from: HP Deskjet F4435 All-in-One Printer - Black (CB750A#1HA) (Electronics)
So... I was desperate for a printer- my old one was so old that when I upgraded to Snow Leopard and went to go download the new driver, HP's site said they were no longer making new drivers for that product. So this was on sale for $40 at Target... most expensive ink on the market, awful customer service/tech support... but I needed a printer, so I bit the bullet. I've worked tech support before and know computer-related electronics relatively well at any rate... should've known better.
While I think it's pathetic that this is 2010 and this printer doesn't print two-sided, I was otherwise fine with it until about 3 weeks ago. This printer sucks ink, by the way- so what you don't spend on a quality printer you'll sure make up for in ink costs. So every other print, my printer decides to tell me that my tri-color ink cartridge is incompatible. The same cartridge that has been in there since I bought the printer in October. But it's now incompatible... Spent an hour on the HP Chat... to which the response I got after wasting over half a cartridge on test print-out pages per the tech's instructions, was "well I guess it fixed itself now, didn't it?" So two print jobs later it did the exact same thing... another 30 minutes with a different tech, this one telling me that the reason it keeps printing calibration pages is because the scanner needs to be calibrated- how the printer gets ink and scanner calibration confused I still do not know, but again- this worked, for the time being. Here we are again, another week later, and guess what? SAME PROBLEM! Just spent 20 minutes waiting in line for another tech... we'll see what this one tells me. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers a few times, cleaned the cartridge heads... so far, each idea is a one-time fix.
Bottom line- ink costs too much and there's too little functionality in this printer to waste your time and money.

EXCELLENT FOR THE PRICE..., July 15, 2011
This review is from: HP Deskjet F4435 All-in-One Printer - Black (CB750A#1HA) (Electronics)
I bought this printer for $35-$40 on sale at Target. I was thrilled with it because I don't use a printer very often and it was very cost effective. It has worked fine for about a year. Since I rarely used it, I expected the ink to last a long time, but it was indicating empty... so I purchased two new cartridges and made sure they were the HP brand and exactly the same type that were in the printer originally. Well, I installed them according to the directions and the printer kept ejecting them and indicating "empty." I cleaned the contacts and went to the HP help site, which was to no avail. A family member finally was able to install the cartridges for me and after that it worked fine. The cartridges are very tricky to install, but otherwise the printer works very well for the price. The scanner also works great. I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of this printer, especially considering the price.

Not bad for the price, December 2, 2009

works ok just keep in mind the cost of ink. $18 for 200 pages is $0.09 a page. and the after market ink prices are not that much cheaper, $14 or $0.07 per page.
