Editorial Reviews

Richard Pinhas is one of the most uncompromising artists on the international rock scene, having remained constantly innovative and true to his personal artistic vision for 40 years. He founded the legendary 70s band Heldon whose albums are considered some of the earliest releases of 'electronic rock' extant.

He is one of France's best known experimental musicians and is a key figure in the international development of electronic music fused with rock.

This new album features him in collaboration with well known avant-garde/experimental music names like Lasse Marhaug and Oren Ambarchi, [both of whom have collaborated with Sunn O)))], Noël Akchoté and Etienne Jaumet (half of the French duo Zombie Zombie).

The styles range from spacey drones to psychedelic guitar rock to lurching, overwhelming mechanical racket.

3.0 out of 5 stars Leaving old skin behind June 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD
So Pinhas has finally got some recognition for his 40 years or so of working in the dangerous zones of Prog rock, electronic, ambient and noise/industrial genres. Of the 6 tracks in here i only really enjoyed the 2 longer ones (track 1 and 6) and track 3, which are more in the style of his later works (sequencers, guitar walls, noise, etc) but with some drums added. Quite good but i kind of miss the old sequencers and the less noisy, more focused Pinhas. In one of the longer tracks he flirts a bit with techno beat influenced music. Not that you are going to put this album in your next party but there is definitely a toe tapping disco/techno groove which is almost unheard of in Pinhas catalog. Another i was not fond of (track 2) is a guitar based 'jam' or 'blues improv' of some sort where Pinhas does not really shine as guitarist. So, there you have it...the 3 tunes that are my favorites add up to almost 40 minutes of music so i guess it's ok to buy this latest Pinhas effort if you are a fan. Newcomers dig elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars. Not his best work, but enjoyable. July 16, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you are a fan of richard pinhas you will not be disappointed. There is a nice range of tunes on here. I've only listened one time through but I know that it is good enough to hold up to repeated listening. A very early review, so i'll give it 3.5 since i'm not sure if it will grow on me or not.
