4.0 out of 5 stars Makes Quick Work of Sticky Stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as described
This product isn't really as good as described. If you want to remove sticky labels, it will take a while to soak and then scrape off, repeating to get the label off completely. Not an instant fix. Years ago, De-Solv-It was a great product which even removed gum. Perhaps they have changed it. Would not recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes Quick Work of Sticky Stuff., May 2, 2008
This review is from: Desolv It Citrus Solution 12 oz
De-Solv-It by Orange Sol removes sticky-icky stuff from surfaces, hair, skin, and clothing with relative ease. Gooey residue that would otherwise take a lot of time and elbow grease, if it could be removed at all, disappears with De-Solv-It and minimal scrubbing. I use it mostly to remove stickers, but it's also great for sap, gum, and any kind of adhesive residue. It works well to remove stickers from books and book jackets as long as the jacket is slick, not porous. I spray a little De-Solv-It on a paper towel and apply to the sticky scum. I wouldn't spray De-Solv-It directly onto paper, even if its coated, because De-Solv-It is oily and will stain paper if it's allowed to soak in.

Orange Solvent, the predecessor to De-Solv-It, was created in 1932 by Edwin L. Ackerman after he accidentally discovered that orange juice would remove stubborn dental impression cement from his hands. Thus citrus-based cleaners were born. Orange Sol claims that De-Solv-It works well on most kinds of stains, not just sticky stuff, including protein stains, grease, and food. I haven't tried it on food stains, as my normal laundry spot spray works on those. Ouixtar's (Amway) Tri-Zyme is hands-down the best thing on protein stains, including very old stains. De-Solv-It probably is good on grease. It was popular with people who worked on the Exxon Valdese oil spill in Alaska.

De-Solv-It is unfortunately no longer available in a squirt bottle. It comes in a 12.6 fl.oz. spray bottle. This is fine for those using it to treat laundry or large areas, but I have to spray it onto a paper towel to use it on a small area. And I really don't want this stuff to spray all over the place. There is a warning on the back of the bottle against using it on carpet backing, acrylic, some plastics, uncoated paper, suede & leather, silk, elastic, and khaki-colored fabric. But just a droplet of De-Solv-It will ruin modern furniture finishes, the kind that are applied by the manufacturer in either matte or glossy. So keep the spray bottle clear of any furnishings or wood decor that has a permanent finish.

De-Solv-It is biodegradable and emits no toxic fumes, so this is an environmentally-friendly and human-friendly product. It has a light citrus scent. Essential citrus oils, vitamin E, aloe vera, and organic wetting agents are among the ingredients. It contains no water, so this is not a diluted cleaner, and there is never any need to dilute it. You can set the nozzle to "spray", "stream", or "off". The packaging and inadequate warnings are my only reservation. Keeping that in mind, De-Solv-It makes quick work of sticky stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product!, July 3, 2008
This stuff will get ANY adhesive, paint, etc. off. Absolutely SAFE on skin (even sensitive skin) and hair. My daughter uses it to get her insulin pump infusion set off each time, spray it on, wait 30-60 seconds, then pull it off with NO pain and NO sticky residue! Then wipe the De-Solv-It off with a wet washcloth, that's it! It gets paint, magic marker, etc. off hands easily too. I adore this product.

I was first introduced to this product in the Air Force I was a cable splicer and we used it to clean the water proofing grease from the inside of the cable. Then we washed our clothes with it, cleaned our cars engines, washed our hands. We found endless uses for it, gum in you hair, or on the ground or clothes. It is a great product. I have been using it since 1989, and i always have 3-4 bottles in the house at all times, blood, and grass stains are no match for this product. If you get food or food grease on your shirt a couple of pumps wash and gone. It does have on limitation, do not use it on glass, mirrors, or finished wood. It just smears on glass and it will remove any finish off any wood. it even cleans soap scum out of the shower, but rinse good oil, water, and the bottom of the tub become a ice rink. And it always smells like oranges when you clean.

I have used this product since it came on the market, and I have not found ANYTHING that is comparable to it. Hard to find in my area, but I scout the internet and buy it in volume. It removes every single thing that is noted that it removes, and then some. Especially tree sap as we have a lot of that where we live. I have yet to find anything sticky that it won't remove, and it also removes things that aren't sticky, but are stuck on. Hope it is never removed from the shelves.

I love this stuff! It bums me out that I can't find it in most stores anymore. I've been using it for 12 years now. I ordered 6 bottles online to make it efficient and worth the shipping - and boy was it worth it.

Safe enough that it has been used on babies, in burn units to remove tar, on wildlife caught in oil spiils. AND since it's citrus based it biodegrades!

Removes crayon on clothes and surfaces, removes grease from clothing. Already washed it and you missed the grease? Just spray it on and apply a litte liquid detergent and then rub. Throw it in the wash and its gone. Removes gum from hair and textiles.

I use it to remove candle wax from table cloths, to degrease things in the kitchen, to remove adhesive labels, etc.

Add it to warm water in a wash pail and mop the floor. Smells great and doesn't require rinsing.

This stuff is one of the best kept green secrets on the face of the earth!

5.0 out of 5 stars desolves stains, October 11, 2008
I love this product. I used to buy this at Walmart but they have decided to carry the product(Goo-Gone) that doesn't necessarily clean better but gets more commercial time on TV. Desolvit works great on clothing even if you don't notice the stain until after it has been washed AND dryed. I also found that you cannot let the product set over night or for a long period of time. This will leave a ring type mark on the clothing. If that does happen just respray the clothing and wash immediately. I always have a couple of bottles on hand for friends and family too!

I love this stuff. I discovered it 4 years ago, when my son left crayons in his pocket, and they went through the wash. I got the colors out, but not the oily spots. Someone recommended de-solv-it to me. With 4 kids, I go through the laundry with one hand holding a bottle of shout, and one hand holding de-solv-it for the grease spots. It really works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved My Shorts! (and shirt...), February 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Desolv It Citrus Solution 12 oz
I managed to sit in a puddle of pine pitch on my honeymoon and I thought the shorts and shirt I was wearing was ruined. Upon returning home, I went to the store and looked for a solution. I found De-Solv-It and decided to give it a try.

I had been able to scrape some off after the pitch had dried but it basically had infused the fabric and wouldn't come out. I sprayed the product on the rather large stains, tossed the items into the washer and hoped for the best. I figured I'd have to run them through several times to *maybe* get the stain out. Much to my suprise, both items came out without a stain the first time through! I was amazed...and quite pleased.

I now use the product for all my greasy, oily laundry stains. It works quite well -- even better than most of the stain removers I've used. I can even use it to eliminate grease stains on laundry that has gone through the dryer once (when I miss a grease stain) and it will take the stain out. Not bad!

The price is right, and it's saved me a bunch of money. One 12 ounce bottle lasted me a good long time and it has become the only product I use for grease stains.
