2.0 out of 5 stars Very Ho-Hum
I won this book from Goodread's First Reads program.

I was pretty excited about getting this book. I love movies that involve government organizations or spies. If I could bundle my love of Jason Bourne style intrigue and action with an in depth relationship I would be one happy camper. Who could pass that up? Too bad that spies are a lot more boring in book...

5.0 out of 5 stars How is it possible for this series to get better - read this book and you will see!, July 29, 2010

Karma is a fickle mistress that will not be controlled or tamed even though we try to manipulate it and pretend it is coincidence that created the mess we are in. At times it is truly Karma that puts you right where you are supposed to be and we accept that everything happens for a reason.

Tyler Hanson is the daughter of an iconic Army General who taught her to never give up and training Tyler to control her decisions and destiny. Prepared to handle anything after her stint in the army she joined the secretive American Tactical Intelligence Command (A-Tac) group as their munitions expert. This background is how she came to lead the team that was transporting a top secret military weapon one night on a dark stretch of road. It was a well calculated plan to accomplish the mission but unforeseen incidents and ghosts from the past create a terrible incident that lead to death and the confiscation of the government weapon by an unknown enemy. With all the problems and bad scenarios that arose from the theft the ray of hope that Tyler never believed would appear was in the form of a man. But when she meets the British MI-5's Intelligent Agent Owen Wakefield what a great problem he turned out to be.

Yet after her recovery and amazing debriefing by Owen it soon becomes clear that Tyler was not on the mission by accident it was a direct order given by her father. Why her father was involved, why he wanted A-Tac there, and in particular Tyler to be the lead with this weapon transport was unclear. Most important of all who knew outside of A-Tac that this mission was going to happen and set this disaster in motion. Too many things on A-Tac missions are going wrong, too many dangerous mistakes being made and lives are being put at risk. This was not Karma or coincidence this was a human created scenario that Tyler and the entire team was going to figure out and solve.

But the more Tyler investigates the more questions arise about her father, his friends and especially Owen's mysterious past and questionable involvement with A-Tac. They were drawn to one another from the moment they met but both of them have so many secrets and figuring out which one of them is holding back the most painful one will either turn everything around for the recovery mission, uncover the mole is or destroy everything including their relationship. They may be working with each other and walking into a relationship but without trust no amount of Karma will help until you let your guard down and tell the truth. Life may not be a romance novel but it sure can be fun and full of love if you just trust your heart and go with your first impressions.

This book is the 3rd in the series and while I dislike picking favorites this one is the clear choice for perfect with me. You have the drama, the suspense, the military secrets, more suspense and best of all two wonderful characters that just can't stop being amazing and full of life which jumps out at you on every page. Good job Dee Davis I hope this series continues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall Rating: 4.95, March 25, 2011

This review is from: Desperate Deeds (Mass Market Paperback)
Overall Rating: 4.95 // Action: 5 / Emotion: 4.75 / Romance: 4.5 / Sensuous: 4.25 / Intrigue: 5 // Humor: 1 / Tears: 3

Dee Davis's 'The A-Tac Series' has become a favorite. Any reader who loves military romantic suspense books will love this series. Although it is not critical to understand the development of the story line in "Desperate Deeds" (Book Three), interesting background information about the A-Tac team is presented in Book One, "Dark Deceptions", and Book Two, "Dangerous Desires." In these two books, the team has been encountering elements of sabotage during their missions that indicates they may have a traitor in their midst. The pursuit of that traitor takes up the majority of the plot line in "Desperate Deeds."

There was something about this 'A-Tac Series' that just really grabbed and held my attention. Features about "Desperate Deeds" that were so enthralling and engaging, include: {1} The massive amounts of action that pervaded the book. {2} The dual sense of nail-biting suspense: (a) who was the mole and (b) would the hero and heroine be able to find him/her/them in time to prevent a catastrophic event. {3} An emotionally wounded, hunky, alpha hero strong enough to stand up to the heroine. {4} An attractive, smart, independent heroine who knows what she wants and won't settle for less. {5} Spicy, heated, magical love scenes that include an emotional connection as well as a sexual one. {6} The inclusion of the entire A-Tac team as interesting secondary characters. {7} The inclusion of additional secondary characters who are connected to the heroine's personal background (i.e., her father and brother). {8} The two things that always count in fiction: (a) the good guys win, and (b) the boy gets the girl (and lives happily ever after).

A more detailed, spoiler-ridden review of "Desperate Deeds" appears on my blog Wolf Bear Does Books. Love this series. Cannot wait to read future installments (scheduled for 2011 and 2012).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great conclusion to the A-Tac series (Michelle&Leslie's Book Picks blog review), August 25, 2010
This review is from: Desperate Deeds (Mass Market Paperback)
Desperate Deeds is the third book in Dee Davis's A-Tac series and I thoroughly enjoyed. The questions that have been haunting me since book one (Dark Deceptions) are answered yet it leaves it open enough in the end that there may be more A-Tac books to come in the future. I am not quite ready to leave the fascinating world of A-Tac and I am hoping there will be a spin-off set in the same world (surely Avery deserves his own story).

In Desperate, we get to know more about Tyler Hanson, a demolitions expert and a recurring character in the first two books. I really liked her--she is smart and tough but she still has a feminine side. She is the kind of heroine I like reading about as she is interesting and multi-dimensional. Her hero is Owen Wakefield and he's okay; he is supposed to be British but I wasn't really feeling it. Tyler and Owen are great together and I thought the chemistry is there. Desperate is not as pulse-pounding or fast-paced as book two, Dangerous Desires (my favorite!), but there's plenty of action and don't think you know who the mole is... there's a few twist and turns before we find out.

Though this book can be read as standalone and you can easily catch on the the back story, I think you'll enjoy Desperate more if you read the first two books. However, if you read the first two in the series, then this book is definitely a must-read. Overall, I think Dee Davis can definitely write thrilling romantic suspense and Desperate Deeds is a satisfying conclusion to a great series.

4.0 out of 5 stars a superb suspense novel that was easy to read and thrillingly entertaining, July 27, 2010

Desperate Deeds by Dee Davis
Romantic Suspense- July 27th, 2010
4 stars

Dee Davis's A-Tac black-ops series continues in the 3rd and latest thrilling installment with Desperate Deeds. The best thing about this book is how it builds upon the characters from her prior books. Plus any of her books can easily be read by itself. These books are fast and suspenseful reads that are filled with realism, tension and high emotion. I just found out she will continue this exciting series and was delighted since I feel the A-Tac team has so many remarkable characters that I want to explore them further!

Tyler Hanson is surprising called to duty to help escort a military transport. But a routine mission goes badly when everyone dies except her. She is immediately put under scrutiny and heavy suspicion. While under interrogation she tells them everything except holds back the mysterious sighting of scarf at the scene that reminds her of a past tragedy. Tyler blames herself for the men's deaths. Down and out she only wants to drink and forget. She shares a night of passion with a one night stand named Owen Wakefild. And Tyler finds his British charms are just what she needs to forget. But soon she is shocked when she gets back to headquarters to discover that Owen has been assigned to work with her!

Owen is exceptional at what he does. But when he is called to infiltrate and discover the traitor in A-Tac his usually clear thinking is clouded by his instincts. His passionate night with Tyler combined with her constant company convinces him that she is not the informant but he doesnft have the proof of her innocence. He must fight his gut feeling but emotions keep getting in the way.

Dee Davis's strong writing made this a fast and easy read that suspense fans will be sure to enjoy. The plot kept me turning the pages as I wondered who the real traitor was. But what I found stood out in this book is how relatable the heroine, Tyler is. She has a gruffer exterior than many heroines and a lot of flaws. Her tough and direct no-nonsense personality gave me feeling that she could easily handle herself in the rough man's world. I liked how comfortable she was with herself and her confidence in her skills. But behind her tough exterior reminders of her past leave her emotionally fragile.

On the other hand, Owen with his British charm is seems more emotionally centered and more polished. I enjoyed how the author sort of 'switched' the roles of the main characters. While Owen is by no means 'girly' he definitely is the smoother character and he reminded me a bit of James Bond. Tyler is the more forceful of the 2. I liked how she came on to Owen and instigates their first night of passion. It didn't make Tyler less feminine but her more aggressive nature was a fresh and interesting layer to their relationship that I enjoyed. They had real chemistry and their scenes together really heated up the pages. I also liked how they both had to sort out their feelings especially when Tyler finds out Owen has been lying and spying on her. He has to do some real fast talking.

This was a superb suspense novel that was easy to read and thrillingly entertaining. I particularly loved discovering why Tyler was targeted and reading Owen's torn emotions when he is sent to discover if she is a traitor.

4.0 out of 5 stars An A-Tac novel. Exciting!, November 27, 2010
This review is from: Desperate Deeds (Mass Market Paperback)
A-Tac is a black-ops CIA unit masquerading as Ivy League faculty. Tyler Hanson is the demolitions expert for A-Tac. Her motto is "Duty first". The last thing she wants is to get involved in a relationship. When Tyler meets Owen Wakefield, a handsome British operative, she ends up in his bed for a single night and never expects to see him again. But then Owen is brought into A-Tac.

Logan Palmer is with the NSA. (Think Internal Affairs. Policing America's intelligence agencies.) Palmer is out for one thing and one thing only. To work is way up the political ladder any way he can. Somewhere in the A-Tac chain, there is a mole. Someone is leaking out vital information. Palmer believes Tyler is the guilty person. Palmer inserts Owen into A-Tac to find proof of Tyler's guilt.

As Owen works with A-Tac, he becomes more and more positive that Tyler is innocent. He also becomes more positive that he feels more than simple desire for Tyler. But no one on the team knows that Owen is actually working for Palmer. Most everything they know about Owen is a lie. When they eventually find out, the mess will hit the fan.

**** FOUR STARS! This episode tackles the mole issue that has been an ongoing subplot in the previous titles. No worries if you did not read them. The author makes sure that new readers are not left floundering and confused. (Each title is a stand-alone tale. They are exciting and I recommend reading them simply for the pleasure of it.) Dee Davis writes romantic suspense like no other! ****

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced story from the word go!, August 20, 2010
This review is from: Desperate Deeds (Mass Market Paperback)
I really liked this one. There was so much going on it kept me turning the pages. Right of the bat the story gets going and it doesn't really slow down.

I liked Tyler, she was tough (very tough) but she was also still a woman and had a softer side to her. There were a few times when she would do something uncharacteristic and she would think to herself "There's the woman in me." I also liked Owen, I had a picture of Sean Connery as James Bond for him. I think that comes from the fact that Tyler kept comparing him to James Bond, and since Sean is my favorite Bond that's who I picture. Very Sexy :-)

Like I said the story is very fast paced. The writing is really good, I could get lost into this one. In my head it played out like a movie, I could see everything in the settings. The writing was so good that the descriptions really brought everything to life. Normally when I read it's more of an emotional connection and I only picture the character that's being described, not the entire scene. But with this one I had everything in the images in my head. It really makes it seem less like I'm reading and more like I'm watching a movie.

I liked the A-Tac "hiding" place. It was really neat that the group runs a college to keep their true purpose hidden. I thought that was a really neat twist. The first time Tyler is on campus I couldn't figure out why, but when Davis explains it I really got into the idea.

I will have to pick up more of Dee Davis' books. And since this was part of a series I think I'll have to start with the first two installments. I really got drawn into this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Suspense, August 19, 2010
This review is from: Desperate Deeds (Mass Market Paperback)
[Desperate Deeds][Davis, Dee][Paperboundmassmarket]"Desperate Deeds" is the third book in the A-Tac Series. I have to say that I am impressed by Dee Davis's writing. I have read many series books from other authors and Dee Davis has pulled through to the top for me. I love the style in which she writes and the fact that every book I have read in the series has had wonderful details and great characters. All these books are written in a way that you can follow the series or read them as a stand alone either way these books are great. I felt that this story was a wonderful addition to the others and I loved it just as much as the first two. Desperate Deeds has just the right amount of action, adventure, romance and suspense for a magnificent read.

Don't expect to do anything until you finish this book. I made that mistake and had to stay up late to finish it. I adored the first two in Dee Davis's A-Tac series and the third one is just spectacular. The female lead of Tyler shows you can be strong and still feminine which is an excellent role model for women of all ages. It also helps that she gets to kick butt and still be sexy. There is some wonderful sexual tension between her and Owen. I think these would make wonderful movies since the female leads really remind me of James Bond. YAY!

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful!, August 10, 2010

This review is from: Desperate Deeds (Mass Market Paperback)
Book Three in the A-Tac series was just as good as the others. Suspenseful and exciting! Tyler almost dies in an ambush that she didn't see coming - and should have, while two other people do die. This leads some people to believe that she might have set them up to die. Now Tyler has to defend herself, while also trying to find the real team member who has betrayed the others.

In a moment of weakness she has a one-night stand with Owen, someone who has many, many secrets - one of which will devastate Tyler. But she must still work with him in order to clear her name and save others from unnecessary deaths.

At the same time she's trying to understand and sort out her feelings for this man, who isn't who she thinks he is. Keeping her personal feelings separate from her current work assignment is difficult.

Dee Davis writes a fast-paced book, which kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. She writes really good, and believeable-to-me suspense novels about the secret-undercover world. I was disappointed for the trilogy to end, because the characters were really enjoyable.
