3.0 out of 5 stars Overall good
Overall this was a good book, but some of the parts were unrealistic. It seems like the writers tried a little too hard with some of the scenes, which took away from it. I'm from the hood, so every situation that was described in this book does happen in the hood, but the way the authors describe them is what make it sound unrealistic.

Would I recommend this...

DESPERATE HOODWIVES is the tale of four women who will do anything to
escape the hood.

Aisha has a loving husband who provides her with everything money can
buy, but when he lands in jail, Aisha may have to compromise her
values to keep her street credibility intact. Devani thought she hit
the jackpot when she lands pro athlete Tyrik. When Tyrik becomes
distant, Devani devises a scheme to force him to stay in her life
forever. Molly's love for Junior led to her family disowning her.
When Junior crosses the line for the last time will love be enough to
keep them together? Lexi has found Mr. Right. Even though he
provides for her and her five children, she still isn't satisfied.
Will she allow lust for her ex destroy the family she and Luther have
created?

DESPERATE HOODWIVES is the first in the Hoodwives series. Meesha Mink
and De'Nesha Diamond have written a drama-entrenched novel that
leaves no stone unturned. Erotic and explosive, DESPERATE HOODWIVES
is a well-written and I could not put down. I am anxiously awaiting
the sequel, Shameless Hoodwives because DESPERATE HOODWIVES is a classic. Part erotica, part urban fiction, part horror, DESPERATE HOODWIVES has a little something for every reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Women of Bentley Manor, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Desperate Hoodwives: An Urban Tale (Paperback)
DESPERATE HOODWVIES is the story of four women living in a low income housing complex called Bentley Manor. Each women has a different life situation, yet all of their lives end up as one giant circle of tragedy.

Lexi has five children fathered by four different men. Each "love" story in her past has ended in loneliness, except for the current one that includes her husband, Luther. Lexi thinks her life is headed in the right direction, until one day when her life flashes before her.

Aisha and her drug-dealing husband, Maleek, were a happy couple until he goes to prison. Left to fend for herself, Aisha finds a way to make some fast cash to keep her expensive lifestyle afloat. Aisha's life takes a tragic turn for the worst, and her life is forever altered.

Devani is a young lady who desperately wants to leave her surroundings behind. NFL star Tyrik could be Devani's ticket out of the projects, or her fate.

Molly comes from a wealthy family, but gives up everything to make a life with Junior. Molly loves her husband Junior more than life itself and makes every sacrifice for him, only to experience a life of poverty, abuse, and shame.

All four of these women experience the shame of their surroundings and the consequences of their relationship choices. Although strangers for the most part, they all share the same fate in the end--pain and tragedy. Once you start reading DESPERATE HOODWIVES, you can't put it down. It will make you laugh and cry, but most of all it will make you think about your choices in life and how they will impact your future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite as Refined at Desperate Housewives, January 23, 2008

This review is from: Desperate Hoodwives: An Urban Tale (Paperback)

"Desperate Hoodwives" is a great read.

It's well written with interesting characters and loads of drama.

Devani reminds me of most female characters in Urban Literature. A chick that chases that almighty dollar while ignoring the man who truly loves her (Shakespeare).

I enjoyed the scenario between Devani & Tyrik. Unfortunately, when you play with fire, you get burned.

I respected Lexi's craving to have a positive, male, role model in her children's lives. Nonetheless, she truly needs to take responsibility for all of the dreadful decisions she's made.

Molly was an idiot. Why she defied her parents to marry a bum like Junior was mind boggling. Unfortunately, it was too late when she realized just how vile he was.

Aisha turning tricks to live ghetto fabulously in the projects was pathetic and all too familiar. She certainly had other choices but she preferred what she deemed, the "easy" way out.

Yuck to Junior spreading his dirty penis around Bentley Manor. What a loser.

I really enjoyed reading it. It's definitely worthy of *****. A real page turner. Just the way I like it.

I'm patiently awaiting "Shameless Hoodwives".

5.0 out of 5 stars Desperate for Desperate Hoodwives, January 2, 2008

This review is from: Desperate Hoodwives: An Urban Tale (Paperback)
Desperate Hoodwives is a book that will have you turning the pages to get to the end just to find out what four woman will do to get out the hood of Bentley Manor: Aisha, Devani, Molly, and Lexi. Some are going to be scheming, or just too dumb to see they have a way out already, some will think being faithful to there man will help. But when things take a turn for the worse these women have more problems to think about. DH will have twist and turns that you will never expect to happen. The women in the story seem so real. But at the end of the story the characters are not real, there are a lot of Women out there who are going through the same thing, and will do anything to get out of the hood. It's a good story and well put together and an EYE OPENER. GO AND GET IT!!!

The authors Meesha Mink and De'Nesha Diamond will have you on your toes waiting for the next book, "Shameless Hoodwives".

5.0 out of 5 stars "What good is it to gain the world and lose your soul...", January 15, 2008
This review is from: Desperate Hoodwives: An Urban Tale (Paperback)

Bentley Courts is what three young ladies consider the gateway to hell. Aisha, Devani, and Lexi are three ladies that are residents of this `hood', but not so much as by choice, that are scrambling to `move on up' outta the projects.

Aisha, is an incarcerated `hustler's wife' that considers herself above and beyond her surroundings. Her options have become limited with her king, Maleek, and his legal fees, her family's continuous financial demands, despite her 'queen' state of mind, she realizes that more money is going out and nothing is coming in. Devani's playing games with Tyrik, NFL player, with high hopes of becoming `wifey', of which he is showing no such interest. Lexi has five children with four different fathers and she looks for the pot of gold in her `perfect' husband, Luther. These three ladies share one common bond, their desire to leave the bleakness of Bentley Courts by any means necessary.

Molly is a white girl that has been ostracized from her affluent family because of her love for the neighborhood `maintenance man', Junior, who happens to be a black man. Junior is ruthless but definitely about laying that `infamous pipe' to whomever, whenever, and where ever.

Desperate Hoodwives is an excellent read and has definitely made an outstanding mark in urban lit with this joint debut novel. A spellbinding, page turner that is jam-packed with shocking drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat anticipating each scene as it unfurls. Meesha Mink and Deneesha Diamond are undeniably an awesome duo and their creative skills are fabulous!!! Excellent read! I highly recommend this book and am anxiously anticipating the sequels!! Kudo's ladies!!! Absolutely wonderful!
