I'm always looking for video games that my 3 and 5 year old boys can play. This game isn't it. It's a cute game, but some areas are too hard for me. One good thing about it though is after a few times if you fail at a section, the game asks if you want to skip it. But it is hard. I think it's better for 7 and up.

It's tough to find solid reviews on PS2 games with the world's collective attention tuned on the PS3, Wii and so on but games like Despicable Me are proof that the system is still receiving support. As I still play it often, even over some of the current gen consoles, it's really becoming an affordable means to pick up games that would otherwise require a Wii to play (this, Cars: Race O Rama, or Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp for example).

That said the question then becomes what's it like to play Despicable Me? It's better than expected in many areas but a bit disappointing in others. For starters it's 2D, which in my opinion is a good thing. While it lacks the simple, addicting intuitiveness of 2D staples like Super Mario Bros., it's still quite refreshing in a world flooded with 3D games.

The player takes control of Gru as he attempts to out-invent, outsmart and out-nasty his archenemy Vector. Each world is comprised of eight levels, and completion of each section does reward players with a little snippet of the hit film on which it's based. Let me start with the good: The voiceovers are fantastic. Gru comes up with classic quotes all the while you're attempting to work your way through the levels such as, "maybe you should give the controller to someone else for a while".

Now the bad news- While the control is decent and abundant checkpoints abound (with unlimited lives), the gameplay itself is often on the difficult side. Sure 2D is expected to be heavy on jumping/ platforming, Despicable takes on a decidedly puzzle-heavy approach. Advancing through a level is typically a matter of opening a whole series of locked doors and reaching tricky platforms by controlling an inventory of minions.

Great fun little game. It is easy enough that my nieces and nephew can play it and they love minions. There are some parts of the game that can be quiet hard and challenging but after enough times of failing in that location you are given the option to skip it. Fun little game for kids of all ages and me as an adult I really enjoy it.

i got a psp for my son on christmas, and i didnt like it. the games were awful, and about 2 weeks later, me and my son told eachother to return it and egt a game for the ps2. my son chose this game. he was really exited at 1st, and i saw him play the game, for 4 days at least. it was to hard for him by the looks of it. i never see him play the game ever, and i think he dosnt want to admit he hates it, scince he thinks it might make me mad to go to the store, return it, and get something else. the game dosnt explain what to do, and his christmas is ruined by sony and d3 publisher. i just with d3 got condemed. they make the worst games ive ever seen. the game dosnt even have to do with the story! fortanatleym to make it up to him, i got him the dvd. i wish this game was actually fun.
