5.0 out of 5 stars Paper Toolbox for Addressing Eating Disorders, June 24, 2009
By

This review is from: Desserts Is Stressed Spelled Backwards: Overcoming and Controlling Compulsive Eating and Bulimia (Perfect Paperback)
Psychotherapist Gloria Arenson writes clearly and engagingly about the roots of eating disorders--fear of loss, love, relationship problems, guilt, poor self-concept, and non-assertiveness--and offers her readers tools to slowly make life-altering changes in the way we view food and what we finally decide to put in our mouths.

In her intro she explains why she wrote the book: "I am sick and tired of reading about diets," which reinforce our exteriors and ignore the roots of eating disorders. She offers her reader viable alternatives.

She explains the chemistry of overeating, and brings our self-defeating habits out into the light of day. She gives useful examples from her decades of therapy work to help her readers connect with the material.

Most useful is the EFT technique--a tapping process that I, at first, dismissed BUT it works. It's simple, discrete, effective.

Again, clear, intelligent text, useful, enlightening information about stress; and finally, some tools and techniques that actually produce results.

This review is from: Desserts Is Stressed Spelled Backwards: Overcoming and Controlling Compulsive Eating and Bulimia (Perfect Paperback)
Gloria Arenson has done a terrific job of explaining the underlying causes for eating disorders and then takes it a step further by providing a means to treat those underlying causes.

Her writing style is informative and easy to follow, and her information is based on her many years of experience in treating eating disorders. Her explanation of her recommended treatment technique of EFT is clear and concise, and the technique produces results.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who has an eating disorder or knows someone who does.
