Biography

The Superions came to Earth to take over the planet with delirious dance music. They started by taking over the bodies of B-52 frontman Fred Schneider, keyboard and electric drum player Noah Brodie, and programmer Dan Marshall, and producing an album's worth of Christmas music called Destination… Christmas! But seriously, folks, The Superions are Schneider's latest side project ... Read more in Amazon's The Superions Store

If you like the B-52's (and you do otherwise you wouldn't be here!) then for some reason you need further justification before clicking add to cart. Well here it is.

While this is definitely not the B's, it has the humor you're expecting from Fred. Although a bit home-brewed at times in sound with the cheesy synths and occasional cheap-o drum machines (on purpose I'm sure?) there are some truly catchy moments (think Butterbean) and more than a few surprises. "Mrs. Claus in a salad? She was tossed..." Yikes! For the most part it's G rated.

Sleazy beats abound, Fred's tongue planted firmly in cheek - I dare you not to start tapping your feet for Fruitcake and Santa Je T'Aime or giggle at Chillin' at Christmas or Crummy Christmas Tree (where'd that tuba come from?). There is no shortage of filler items either, but even the weak ones are redeemed by some pretty spot-on lyrics that you've lived or will live on Christmas with friends, family and well, all those "other" people that make this time of year so very "special".

This is positively a party icebreaker and will surely find its way in your Christmas rotation tradition.

"What's this? Mouse droppings all over the gifts?"
"Turn off the lights quick! Those carolers are across the street and they always expect money or liquor!"

Thank you for telling it the way it is for Christmas Fred!

4 Amazon (I like it!) stars.

Amazon offered Fruitcake as a freebie last year. Based on that song, I bought this CD. OMG, what a mistake. On the good side, the lyrics are fun, what one would expect from the lighter side of The B-52s. But the bad side is Fred's singing, if you can call it that. He's not the best vocalist around, never has been, but he was always good for his style of music. On too many songs on this CD, though, he seems to go out of his way to suck. If that was the intent, then job well done, Fred.

Fruitcake is a genuinely good song, and I can't help but bop my head to Jungle Bells, which are probably the only reasons this CD is getting two stars instead of one. I'd like to give it more for the lyrics, but you can't enjoy those without having to listen to Fred's so called singing, so I can't do it in good conscience.

This cd is partially amusing, but it adds up to subpar work from the iconic frontman of the B52's. Wah.
