Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Tintin begins his greatest adventure when he and Captain Haddock are rather cryptically summoned to join Professor Calculus in Klow. It turns out that the professor has joined a consortium in order to build a rocket that will land a person on the moon (this was in 1953, well before Neil Armstrong). Unfortunately, the project has attracted some unwanted attention from those who will resort to sabotage and skullduggery to steal the technology. Is the project successful? Well, it's probably not that great of a spoiler to reveal that the story is continued in Explorers on the Moon. --David Horiuchi

Review

The Adventures of Tintin (also known as The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn[4] in the United Kingdom) is a 2011 American performance capture 3D film based on The Adventures of Tintin, a series of comic books created by Belgian artist Hergé (Georges Remi). Directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Peter Jackson, and written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, the film is based on three of the original comic books: The Crab with the Golden Claws (1941), The Secret of the Unicorn (1943), and Red Rackham's Treasure (1944).[5]
Spielberg first acquired rights to produce a film based upon the Adventures of Tintin series following Hergé's death in 1983, and re-optioned them in 2002. Filming was due to begin in October 2008 for a 2010 release, but release was delayed to 2011 after Universal opted out of producing the film with Paramount, who provided $30 million on pre-production. Sony chose to co-produce the films. The delay resulted in Thomas Sangster, who had been cast as Tintin, departing from the project. Producer Peter Jackson, whose company Weta Digital is providing the computer animation, intends to direct a sequel. Spielberg and Jackson also hope to co-direct a third film.[6] --Wikipedia --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tintin's lunar adventures mark Herge's finest hour., October 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Destination Moon (The Adventures of Tintin) (Paperback)
Along with its sequel, Explorers on the Moon, Destination Moon is the most fully realised of Tintin's adventures. Published over a decade before the lunar landing of 1969, Herge's vision of space travel is a convincing one. Brilliantly illustrated with Herge's unique cinematic style and featuring some excellent villains, as well as hilarious antics from the Thompson Twins, Destination Moon is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for children!, June 27, 1998
By A Customer
Although this book is geared toward children, it can be enjoyed by adults too. Destination Moon was the first book I read by Herge, and I immediately went on to read the others. The storylines are wonderful - you really get caught up in them! And the pictures are great! That is one thing I really enjoyed about this book - the pictures! You also have to pay attention to Snowy's antics! What a character! This book is a must-read!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is Tintin, what can I say?!!, September 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Destination Moon (The Adventures of Tintin) (Paperback)
Herge is the greatest comic drawer in the world. Tintin's adventures are good for both children and adults, maybe even better for adults that children. I am just sorry that Americans don't know these books better, I wish Tintin and Asterix were popular in America the same as they are in Europe and other parts of the world.
