5.0 out of 5 stars More! I must have more!, August 22, 2001
By
Ross Whitlock (Thetford, VT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
Just like the first Remnants book, this one is expertly written. I wished it was longer, though. When I finished, I was resenting the fact that "Them" doesn't come out until October. One thing's for sure: this book series can only get more interesting.

The plot: five hundred years have passed since Earth was destroyed. Jobs, 2Face, Mo'Steel and the others wake up to discover that the Mayflower has landed on a surreal world that, creepily enough, seems to have been inspired by human artwork. Between twenty and thirty of the Eighty survived the trip. Some have changed, some haven't; Yago is still power-hungry, Billy Weird seems to be in an empathic coma, and something really bizarre has happened to Tamara Hoyle and her baby. There are many new characters introduced, so many that we wonder if K.A. can handle them all. And yes, in typical K.A. fashion, there are aliens. Lots of aliens.

Animorphs and Everworld were great series, but Remnants is better in many ways. I can't wait for book 3....and book 4...and books 5 and 6 and 7 and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, August 12, 2001
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
This book is just as suspenseful and mysteryous as its prequel, "The Mayflower Project," where we first met the eighty people chosen to live after earth was destroyed. Now, in this new installment, they awaken 500 years and 12 days larter in a land where "normal" doesn't exsist. We've got a strange, artwork-like plannet; a baby who looks at you with empty eye sockets; decomposed adults; killer aliens; Billy Wier, who seems to be alive but paralyzed; and more. It has been said that Remnants is a series that will thrive on suprises, and there's a new suprise around every turn of a page in this book. All in all, it's a thriler, and it leaves you hanging, waiting, longing, for Book #3: THEM.

5.0 out of 5 stars The thrilling second book in the Remnants series., August 11, 2001
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
Just before the world was destroyed by an asteroid in 2011, eighty people were put into hibernation on a shuttle, called the Mayflower, and shot blindly into space. Now, five hundred years later, the Mayflower has landed. But less than half of the eighty survived the trip, and those that did find themselves on a strange, unnatural world. The survivors, who call themselves the Wakers, need to work together, but fear and hostility divides them. This world is inhabited by one or more alien species that may have been responsible for its creations. The Wakers may have survived the end of the world and a five hundred year journey through space, but will they be able to survive on this strange new world? The exciting new Remnants series continues with the thrilling second book, which, like the first book, ends with a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read book three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waking Up...., April 17, 2002
By
Shambo-bunny (seattle , WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
Yep,that's right, the Mayflower has landed, and its passengers are slowly starting to come out of hibernation. What they find is startling, the ship has landed in a strange world, half is black-and-white like an old photograph, and the other half is like an impressionest painting!the clock says they have been in space about 500 years!
Over half of the passengers are dead, some missing...
some people are still the same, others have been changed dramatically........

I can't get enough!Once you read the first book with the rock and all that, you get excited about whats going to happen, and a lot does! There are no boring places in theese books, just places to catch your breath!

I can't recomend theese books enough, although some younger kids might get frightened, anyone can enjoy theese books, even adults! So if you like a great sci-fi book,or kids and teen books,or if you just like a good read try theese books,I garentee you will not regret it!

Hope this helped!

5.0 out of 5 stars The end of the world has come...and gone., August 22, 2001
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
Five hundred years after the Mayflower and its crew left Earth before it was destroyed, Jobs and the others finally open their eyes to a world impossible to fathom. The terrain of this strange, new world is so unbelievable -- and it seems that it may pose a threatening danger to them, because they don't really know what's out there. Less than half of the eighty selected escapees survived the trip, and some of those undead are dying slowly, and because of never before seen diseases that may

contaminate the entire crew. Jobs, Mo'Steel, 2Face, and the others are desperate to understand this new world, and to cure the sick people that have awoken. But besides for the danger, there are some hideous revelations awaiting at every corner -- and some just may be unavoidable. Remnants #2: Destination Unknown is the exciting and unbelievably surprising second book in K.A. Applegate's all new Remnants series, which is proving time and again to replace the loss of Animorphs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Hit! A Great Mysterious Story, August 25, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
This story was great! It had a good story line and it followed the first book wonderfully! Magnificent! At times there were a few gross parts, but hey, that's life. A little grossness never killed anyone. Unless it's those fleash eating worms that were in the book.....but, never mind. Read the book to find out more. I really suggest this book. I can't wait for the next one but I guess I'll have to. This book is a great new series made by the same writter who wrote the series "Animorphs". That was another hit! But that is also another review. Read the book and see what you think.

4.0 out of 5 stars getting better..., February 1, 2002
By
Roy Huggins (Place of Lies and Hype) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
(-)@m$ta again...this story is placed in the year 2511, which doesnt matter at all, because the Earth was destroyed. the people get off the mayflower which landed vertically which is impossible, but they survived 500 years without getting older and appeared suddenly on a living painting, so, so what if the mayflower is standing vertically. they have more important things on their minds like, flesh eating worms, riders, blue meanies, plus something called mother....

5.0 out of 5 stars KAA does it again!, November 11, 2001
By
Ashley (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
The former author of the Animorphs series, K.A. Applegate, started to write a new series last summer, called Remnants. As I eagerly awaited the first book, The Mayflower Project, I made up a lot of ideas of what I thought the new series would be like. I thought it was be good...I was wrong. It was GREAT!! Destination Unknown is the 2nd book, and I can tell you...it was fantastic. I really recomend this to fans of KAA and science fiction. It has suspence, action, and a very nice plot line. Read it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!, May 15, 2002
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
The Remnants wake up from their hibernation, and find out they've taken a 500 year "nap". More than half the Remnants are dead. They are on a bizzare planet, where nothing is realistic. There are strange aliens, nicknamed "Riders", who seem to want nothing but to ...[destroy] the Remnants. And pretty soon they find out they are not on a planet, but a ship...

4.0 out of 5 stars The Awakening!, January 21, 2012
This review is from: Destination Unknown (Remnants #2) (Paperback)
She could have titled this part of the book as "The Awakening" since the 80 humans aboard this floating shuttle in space awakens perhaps about 500 years in the future like Buck Rogers. I have already read the first book which prepares you for the sequel.

Anyway, the group of characters which are still not concretely developed in the first or second installment arise from their self-induced sleep. Some don't make it. When they do, they discover not only have time passed but something else has happened to their shuttle.

I won't spoil the rest but this book is okay and could be better. I would have loved an illustration especially about the baby and any aliens that they come in contact or the spaceship which takes them into their orbit.

Anyway, it's an easy read and ideal for the younger audiences who it appeals too. If I get a chance to read the next installment, I would gladly would in the first place.
