5.0 out of 5 stars The only book on the subject you really need
I'm kind of obsessive, so I bought The Knot destination wedding book and the Destination Bride book too. They're both good, but this is probably the only one you need if you're just buying one. The Knot book has lots of nice pictures of other people's weddings which can give you decorating ideas, but not much practical info. Destination bride is good b/c it's by a real...

3.0 out of 5 stars Desperately needs revision
This book is from 2007 and unfortunately it's becoming woefully out of date. Some resources are no longer relevant--for example, I thought the references to designers who have destination wedding collections would be useful, only to look them up and find that several have discontinued those lines. And all the discussion about technology and web use is no longer useful...

5.0 out of 5 stars The only book on the subject you really need, September 7, 2007
This review is from: Destination Weddings For Dummies (Paperback)
I'm kind of obsessive, so I bought The Knot destination wedding book and the Destination Bride book too. They're both good, but this is probably the only one you need if you're just buying one. The Knot book has lots of nice pictures of other people's weddings which can give you decorating ideas, but not much practical info. Destination bride is good b/c it's by a real wedding planner.

What I liked about this book is that it first helps you decide if you're the kind of couple who should have a destination wedding (we are!). And then there's a chapter that really helps spark ideas on where you can have the wedding, in a place that's going to make sense for you and your FH.

The book tells you about all kinds of places to get married -- not just hotels but also parks and beaches all over the world. And if you're just in a rush or don't want to spend a lot of money, you can find out how to have a wedding in Las Vegas (I'm tempted!) for under $1500, and that includes flights, hotels, ceremony, and even the ring. But I have my heart set on a beach wedding, and you can't do that in Las Vegas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Out and Get Married!, September 4, 2007
This review is from: Destination Weddings For Dummies (Paperback)
Let me tell you...
Finding a marriage partner is nothing compared with coming up with a memorable yet affordable wedding, whether at home or away.
For brides (and grooms) thinking "away," Destination Weddings for Dummies is a lifesaver.
Susan Breslow Sardone demystifies destination weddings and shows couples exactly how to mastermind a unique wedding in a thrilling locale.
The author breaks a seemingly overwhelming planning job into its step-by-step components. As you read this book you think, "I can do this!"
This well-organized how-to manual tells you just what you need to know about your destination wedding, what you have to do, and how and when to do it.
The author not only makes the planning look easy, she maintains a funny, "we're all grownups here" tone.
Using Susan Breslow Sardone's Dummies approach, couples won't squander their time or sanity arguing, worrying, panicking, or obsessing about anything involved in a destination wedding.
This book is the first and last word in holding a destination wedding. Brides and grooms, if you're ready to forget the local catering hall, you're ready to get with this book's program.
Go forth and party!

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed, well-written and user-friendly information, October 6, 2007
This review is from: Destination Weddings For Dummies (Paperback)
Susan knows her stuff and she puts it to the reader in a well-written way that any "dummy" can understand. As far as I'm concerned that's the mark of a good communicator. Susan is also an excellent researcher so you can be sure that there is the most up-to-date information and choices of properties in this book. This is a read that every bride or romantic will want on their bookshelf. And it makes a good shower gift as well!

The cheat sheet alone is worth the price of the book, especially for the guide to the new wedding-related online lingo. My GBF was my BM -- and I didn't even know it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my sanity!, August 6, 2009
This review is from: Destination Weddings For Dummies (Paperback)
This book helped me tremendously! Thank you for writing it! It not only helps with the overwhelming task of determining your location, but with the little things you don't think about right away - different customs, tip expectations, etc. I read this book cover to cover and planned a beautiful wedding in Mexico with its help. I would recommend it to anyone planning a destination wedding.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Buy, October 2, 2009
This review is from: Destination Weddings For Dummies (Paperback)
I'm currently doing research for my own DW in 2011 and this book is absolutely the best one I've found on the subject so far. It's detailed, budget-mindful and all-around very practical for a do-it-yourself type of bride/groom. There were great diagrams, check lists, step-by-step instructions, useful websites...etc. This book even has a contact list for major airlines and a guide to online wedding shorthand in the front! It covers all kinds of destinations, too; Europe, the tropics, ski resorts, even theme parks and sports arenas! The best part for me, though, was the entire chapter devoted to cruise ship weddings. My fiance and I have been toying with the idea of getting married on a cruise for a few months now and, I have to say, the information is all there. The author even gives you the lowdown on individual cruise lines (plus their contact info)! No other book that I've found has been anywhere NEAR this detailed about my preferred destination. Really, I was very, very impressed. An excellent buy for any couple considering the pros and cons of a DW.

If you're planning a destination wedding, you'll want to read this book first. It covers everything you would want to know about planning a wedding away from home. Lots of tips and advice starting with whether a destination wedding is right for you and going on to cover organizing and budgeting, finding the right destination, making your travel arrangments, and, of course, the wedding ceremony. There's a chapter on emergencies you may face and how to handle them, as well as ways to save money on a destination wedding.

Planning a beach or destination wedding can be costly and time consuming. We recommend that all our wedding clients get and read Destination Weddings For Dummies. The time and headaches it will save you is well worth the price of the book.
