Book Description

Twenty-year-old Alayna Scott receives visions around water, but even her foresight couldn’t prepare her for the tragic accident that claimed the lives of her parents. With everything she loves gone, Alayna packs up and moves to the small town of Juniper Grove in hopes of starting over.

Jayden McKnight can’t explain the attraction that he feels whenever Alayna is near, but he does know that he will do whatever it takes to win her heart. When a vampire selects Alayna as his next victim, Jayden will stop at nothing to ensure her safety – even if that means bringing Alayna into a world that she never knew existed.

Love blossoms, challenges are made and Alayna will find herself fighting not only to survive, but to understand what she has become.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut novel! April 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Alayna, a young woman marked by tragedy, moves to the small town of Juniper Grove for a fresh start. She's instantly drawn in by her mysterious neighbor Jayden, and the two quickly bond as he helps her get settled into her new home. When things take a deadly turn, Jayden is there to save her, but at what price? Now she has to deal with the reality of the supernatural, and what exactly she has become.

The author does an amazing job at making us love the characters. Alayna Scott, with her painful past and lasting scars, breaks the mold of the typical female heroine. She's no damsel in distress, but still maintains her femininity despite knowing exactly when to kick some butt.

Jayden McKnight, with his jet-black hair and smoldering green eyes is definitely crush-worthy. He reminds me a little of Jacob from the Twilight series, with his tender treatment of Alayna and protective nature, but thankfully he's enough of a man that we won't feel like a cradle-robber if we daydream about him!

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Juniper Grove, and eagerly await my next trip to this charming, supernatural small town.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well Written But... June 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There was something missing from the plot line. If I were able I would actually give this book 3.5 stars because there were plenty of rights. It's just the wrongs were really wrong for me.

THE RIGHTS:
The writing was refreshing. I received this book while it was still free and was pleasantly surprised to find there were just small spelling/grammatical errors. After getting 5% into a free kindle book before deciding to read this one, I was jumping for joy and literally clapping. Most characters were 3 dimensional but, not all. Alayna wasn't a dumb damsel in distress. Interesting twist on bloodlines and how they work.

THE WRONGS:
Let me first begin this category by saying, I am very picking about things I like and do not like while spending time and/or money on a novel. With that being said, if I had paid for this book I would be grossly disappointed. I know what you're thinking. "Umm, arent you blatantly contradicting yourself with the above?" It's really hard to try and explain but I will give it a go.

1. Some characters were 3D while others were 1D. The main characters, Alayna and Jayden, were interesting. They had background stories and quirks that made them real. Alayna with her insecurities and sarcasm. Jayden with his guilt and semi-cockiness. However, I still wasn't head over heels for either of them. What made that hard to do was partially due to the over-telling of minuscule details. I believe another reviewer mentioned the same thing and I must agree. Every single time she took a shower the reader is bombarded with in and outs of such. Sofia and Jullian were okay characters but, still I had little invested in the pair. Kyle and Darren were LOL funny but even their role could cease to exist and not change much of the story.

2. The pacing was way off. Some of the events that happened were over and done so quick, it didn't really allow for the reader to become invested in the scene. Although the scenes were wonderfully written, but the fight scenes were just too short and others way too long.

3. Everyone instantly falls in love with Alayna except for the two obvious bad guys. And even one of them I'm not completely convinced hated her guts. Everything also came fairly easy to Alayna and that didn't leave much room for character development/growth throughout the story. The insta-love between Jayden and Alayna was whiplash fast. On one hand I rooted for them but on the other I wasn't. He proclaimed his love just days after meeting her. He also knew a lot about her when it wasnt clear that they had spent enough time together to have intimate knowledge on someone's character like he claimed to. She had not done anything besides yard work with him and they were both singing each other's praises. And when it came down to her decision of bidding I was kind of stunned. It was so abrupt with little backing.

4. Jayden wasn't a manly man. And if you like Alpha type men...you know the strong, confident, sometimes arrogant, sexy, caring, and assertive type. Well, you're not going to find it here. This was a huge disappointment to me. Especially since he was supposed to be the alpha in waiting...which is kind of weird to me anyway because I wasn't aware that cats had clans. At least not in the sense DA puts it. For example, tigers, panthers, and jaguars typically are solitary animals. They usually don't mate for life either. With that being said lions are usually too dominant/alpha to live with other males. Once males are old enough to fend for themselves they are thrown out and forced to either start their own pride or go rogue so to speak. In DA this is not the case and what little is mentioned of the shifter world is bizarre and confusing to say the least. I would have been more intrigued to go to Jayden's world than to stay in thumb-twiddling Juniper Grove.

5. The foreshadowing was poorly done. I hate when hints are constantly dropped tipping me off very early on. I knew since around chapter 4 or 5 (or whatever chapter we meet Sofia and Jullian) who to be weary of. I also knew that the mini battle was going to end with revenge close behind. I guess you could just say that it was quite predictable.

IN CONCLUSION:
Destiny Awaits is a decent light read!

I would give the overall story a 3.5 on a good day. The more I think about that sickly sweet epilogue the more I want to downgrade though. Epilogues are rarely done well in my opinion and this epilogue just seemed pointless and cheesy.

I would recommend as a light read but, if you are looking for something exciting and unpredictable (or at the very least not as predictable) than I suggest reading Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright. Her book was AMAZING and threw me for a loop at every possible twist and turn.

2.0 out of 5 stars good storyline... not so good writing August 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The description of the book really interested me, and I was looking foward to reading it.
The author just didn't deliver well. The book was very choppy and it seemed to be a bit
rushed, with many grammatical errors. I would not recommend to anyone.
