5.0 out of 5 stars A Decent Limited Edition September 10, 2014
Verified Purchase
At first glance, the Limited Edition doesn't seem like it's worth the extra $40 over the standard edition. Once you realize you get the season pass (includes first 2 expansions, which are priced $20 each), really everything else is just an extra. It comes in a fairly big box to hold the steelbook case case as well as a little book case. Inside the book case is a little art book, with art of the guns in the game. Has little notes written in the margins and shows the guns from different viewing angles. Also included are some post cards and the map. The map looks semi-distressed, I am not sure what it is made of but feels like some sort of cloth. On the inside flap where the box opens up, it has a quote: "We are surrounded by darkness. We always have been. Perhaps that is why the traveler chose us. For even death cannot extinguish our light."

Since this bundle is $100 retail, the extra price is already paying for the season pass. The steelbook & other goodies are just nice extras. I would suggest this bundle if you think it's a game you'll stick around for the expansions for. Otherwise, I'd suggest the standard edition.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Twenty years ago this December, I bought a new game for my second Mac at the local Microcenter and experienced something that changed the way I looked at games forever. Fun, addictive, action filled gaming centered in a universe rich with mystery and wrapped in a fascinating story and narrative. The small team that built it, Bungie, was clearly taking a different approach to game development. I eagerly lined up in successive years for the Marathon sequels, the Myth series (I and II, to this day my favorite action games of all time - read my original review of Myth II here from 1999 please pardon the typos: http://mythgraveyard.org/005967 ), and of course, Halo.

When Halo was released it was the sole reason I bought an Xbox, and again it redefined my expectations for what gaming could, and should, be. Bungie's games, for me, have represented the pinnacle of gaming with four core elements:
1) Rich stories, told through cutscenes and in-game context, that make you feel part of something 'bigger' than just the part you are playing as the main protagonist
2) Addictive, satisfying gameplay and mechanics - what Bungie has described as "30 seconds of fun," that occurs throughout the game
3) Local or split-screen co-op, to easily play with your friends (and in my case now, family), in a single room
4) Perhaps less important than the prior three, but still elemental to the experience, a compelling, orchestral musical score (for the most part done by Marty O'Donnell and Michael Salvatore)

Measured on these four elements, I am sad to say that Destiny completely fails in all but one. The rich gameplay is here. Everything else is, for me, a disheartening failure.

1) Story: As many of the reviews have pointed out, the Destiny story simply is not there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I got the Limited Edition! September 10, 2014

What can I say? I' am a 64 year old gamming "Geek"! Love this game, everything about it. The limited edition has all the extra downloads and some pretty neat stuff such as the weapons and armor book and post card of the past. Also come in a very nice metal case, the metal case and book go into a very nice binder that looks like it will last along time. All I can say is it is a great game and I' m very glad I got the Limited Edition, "See you in the Tower!"

The review below from Rondy is a farce. This game plays and looks identical to the PS4 version, hence why they are so upset. There is no graphical difference between the two. Awesome atmosphere with being able to see different phase of the moon from earth and while on the moon, the earth and it's correlation are correct. Great fun first person shooter/RPG.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... and a Mass Effect fan and this is the best shooter yet September 12, 2014

I'm a Halo fan and a Mass Effect fan and this is the best shooter yet. The massive free world's allow for multi player at anytime with fire squads or random other players joining you. It's a blast taking out numerous aliens and completing challenges and bounties without all the running around having to talk to AIs at certain times ect. It's a good ole shooter at heart and a masterpiece in play.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Serious Letdown (Let Me Explain) November 5, 2014
By Joshua

This was my most anticipated game for 2014 since it was announced back at E3 2013. I was excited seeing Bungie (The creators of Halo) develop a new game with such high standards; a 500 Million dollar budget, over 100 awards from E3 and wonderful gameplay footage showing snippets of the online cooperative play and the story. However, something obviously went very wrong with this game between E3 2013 and the day it was released. I wish to express my disappointment and explain why the game is such a let down. There are good things about this game and I will point them out, but I see more bad than good overall.

Where's The Story?

Looking back at those few Story snippets from the E3 Trailer back in 2013, those are completely ripped from the game. The clip that shows a Warlock Guardian speaking to the Awoken Hunter is no longer there. In fact, that Awoken character is not even in the game at all. Instead, what I ended up experience with the story missions was having my Ghost grab information from a computer while I defend him from hordes of enemies. If it wasn't that, I had to kill a lot of aliens from one of the three factions. To make it worse, there's little to no detail as to why you are on that mission in the first place. The only details you get is when you're in the loading screen, waiting for the mission to begin. I was not emotionally motivated or interested because the details were so vague, not to mention the missions were highly repetitive to begin with.

Who Are They?

There are other missions you do called Strikes are not much better. It is more fun to team up with other friends to take down a boss, but again, the details are vague here as well.
