Create Your Legend
Personalize and upgrade every aspect of how you look and fight with a nearly limitless combination of armor, weapons, and visual customizations. Take your upgraded character into every mode, including campaign, cooperative, social, public, and competitive multiplayer.

Master of the Frontier - Quick on the trigger and deadly with a blade, Hunters stalk battlefields as if they were hunting prey. Cunning and ruthless, they prize the undiscovered and prepare for the unexpected, channeling their powers by intuition and gut instinct.

Armored Engine of War - Their lightning-charged fists will knock you off your feet. Their armor and shields make them nearly invincible. We like to think they are our faceless knights, protecting us from our countless enemies. But their power and resolve gives them the air of rising Gods.

Wielder of Arcane Power - They've found a way to weaponize their curiosity, harnessing the Traveler's light in patterns never before imagined. Warlocks are not passive scholars of the unknown. These are mystic warriors, capable of incredible acts of devastation.

Competitive Multiplayer - Enter the Crucible to hone your competitive skills against other Guardians in arenas that span the solar system. Victory will earn you rewards and reputation.

On-Demand Adventure - Revisit the worlds you have discovered to aid the City in their exploration efforts, seek out valuable resources in order to upgrade your weapons and gear, and link up with other brave Guardians roaming the frontier in search of action and adventure.

Epic Campaign - Destiny features a rich, cinematic story, centered on your quest to discover and explore the remains of humanity's Golden Age. As a Guardian, you must venture beyond our walls, into a wild and dangerous frontier, and take the fight to ancient evil forces hell bent on our destruction.

Cooperative Multiplayer - Form a Fireteam, three Guardians strong. Infiltrate an enemy stronghold, cutting through wave after wave of enemy ranks emboldened by their fierce, battle-hardened leaders. Confront an enemy worthy of only the bravest Guardians.

Third Person Social Space - Home of the Guardians, the Tower is a third person social hub where you can regroup, rearm, and form new alliances before venturing beyond the safety of the City's walls.

Our home. After the Darkness swept over us, we found the Traveler where it made its last stand. Beneath, we built The City – our last – within its protective aura. From here, Guardians stand watch, defend our civilization, and strike out into the wild frontiers of Earth – and beyond – to reclaim our lost worlds.

What little we know of Mars may as well be a myth. We built a massive metropolis in the red dust. The Darkness swept nearly all of it away; the sand itself claimed the rest. No one knows what remains of our lost age, now buried beneath the dunes.

Like Earth, the ruins of humanity's former glory can be found scattered across the familiar lunar surface. Recent exploration attempts have been repulsed, reporting increased enemy activity, and even strange tectonic phenomenon. The City has since classified the Moon as a "Forbidden Zone," open only to our most brave and experienced Guardians.

Venus was once the site of great discovery – a paradise. Now, it is a monument to all that we have lost. The old stories say we built an academy dedicated to learning and research on the shore of a wondrous sea, and that the waters themselves boiled and rose up to shatter the coast, washing away all that we had built.

Few Guardians have faced Cabal and lived to tell the tale. They are a professional military operation. On every front we have found them on the march, they have already dug in and ringed their installations with razor wire. Now, it seems they've turned their eyes towards us.

Fallen are hardy creatures who can survive in a wide range of environments without heavy armor or complex modifications to their physiology. They travel light, hit hard, and are gone before you know it. Fallen may look like mere scavengers, but on closer inspection you will see hints of a splendid, sophisticated past, and the proud markings of their ancestral "Houses."

Hive manipulate the physical world in ways that we can only begin to imagine. The Hive have carved a kingdom deep into the lifeless core of the Moon, and it is there they remain, silent and buried among many dark and terrible secrets, a reminder of the tremendous power that brought forth the Collapse.

Scattered reports indicate that the Vex appear to be mass-produced machine units, constructed of an unknown metal alloy resembling hammered brass. All attempts to communicate with them have failed. They are hostile. They are unrelenting. They are deadly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mileage will vary depending on what you are looking for September 16, 2014

It's difficult to review this game fairly. It's value and rating will greatly depend on what you expected from it. It was sold as an mmo/rpg space opera shooter with an expansive story and galaxy spanning exploration. From those categories, I can give it different scores.

System, Music, and Graphics
First, the graphical and gameplay aspect. In this area, Destiny shines. It is well polished, graphically impressive, and easy to handle. The music is top notch.
-5/5 rating

mmo/rpg elements
This is where the game is the weakest. MMO-wise, it is pretty terrible. You cannot type to chat. You are limited to 4 emotes mapped to a controller button. It is difficult to form a party with people. People in your party might not have headsets plugged in and won't hear you or be able to talk with you. They can wander off and not really help you at all. The process for joining or forming parties is cumbersome. In the first 20 hours of playing, I have had 1 person join my fireteam (even though I had it open to all and invited people often). So socially, it is an single player game where you see other people are playing. The Tower area advertised as a social hub really just has people standing around dancing. There is no way to communicate so there really isn't any other way to interact. I found it immersion breaking to see people just dancing with npcs. You are told the galaxy is threatened by darkness, but have people breaking that dark atmosphere by dancing childishly.

Rpg-wise, Destiny flops terribly. Almost nothing is explained or resolved. There are three playable races...but what are the Awoken? Are they aliens? Are they evolved humans? You'll never know. There are multiple alien attacking races.

3.0 out of 5 stars A solidly 3-star experience September 10, 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Edition:Standard
Destiny has some pretty big shoes to fill. With it's pedigree consisting of Bungie, the team behind the cultural monolith that is the Halo series, along with Activision pouring upwards of $500 million dollars into advertising, it's tough to remove one's self from the sheer hype surrounding the title. Can destiny possibly deliver on that hype?

The short answer is no. If you come into the experience hoping it will be the next halo, you'll be sorely disappointed.

That's not to say Destiny is a bad game by any means. The gunplay is solid and the art direction is wonderful. Unfortunately though, I don't foresee this game having much staying power beyond a weekend or two, as there simply isn't enough substance here to really push you to play beyond those initial 20 hours or so.

For starters, there isn't much respite from the incredibly repetitive missions. Pretty much every mission involves touching down on a planet, walking or riding to a instanced area, and then slowly pushing forward through waves of samey enemies until you reach a waypoint, where you hold down a button and your "ghost" companion gives you some vague or nonsensical plot information entirely through speech. At which point, you return to your ship so you can do it all again (But not before sitting through up to a full minute of loading screens). I've played for 20 hours so far and I have yet to play through a mission that deviates from this structure.

The levels themselves are beautiful and wide open, and you can often find loot boxes in little alcoves off the beaten path, so traversing them can actually be quite fun. Unfortunately you'll be visiting the same ones over and over and over again.

Enter the experience of this game with the intentions of enjoying it for as long as it holds your attention and you'll be content. The important thing is to not buy into the hype, which I can attest from personal experience is not easy to do. This game apparently had some of the biggest funding in recent gaming history, and I have to ask- where did the money go? There's a few things that immediately stood out to me as flaws when I began playing, and those things quickly became frustrating, and here they are listed out and expanded upon:

1. Lack of ability to truly connect to other players: As a game that seemed to emphasize team play through Fireteams, actually finding people to play with outside of your friends is nearly impossible. I remember when I first made it to the central hub of the game, "The Tower," which was indicated as the social center of the game. Upon arriving, instead of finding it a place where I felt connected to the other players of the game, I felt incredibly lonely. Imagine being surrounded by others, and attempting to communicate with them and failing, over and over as the reality of your muteness became known to you. The only way to interact with other players in the game is to use a set of emotes- primarily pointing, waving, and dancing. There's no way to vocally communicate with anyone unless they are in your Fireteam, and joining other players is near impossible unless you go through the efforts of leaving the game to send an invite to them. Other than that, you can view a roster from within your character window that shows other players who are in that area, but the default setting makes it so only their friends can join- the setting to make it public is automatically reset to "friends only" upon logging out.
