5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful album
I think this album is beautiful. I'm upset that it received bad reviews on Amazon, but there are some very nice tracks like Zodiac,If I spend the night, Can't stop the rain and my favorite, Last time we talked. I hope they make a comeback.

Shai finally came back after a couple years off and I was a little dissapointed with the results. After they set the standard for R&B With "If I ever fall in love" they have Gone through lots of changes. I feel this album is lacking the style that was shai for their first three albums. The music is good and there is a catchy song or two but overall...

If you love shai get it. If you want to experience shai go back into time and start with if I ever fall in love. Mike Simonsen

1.0 out of 5 stars They've lost their touch, July 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Destiny (Audio CD)
When i scanned through the tracks of this cd i immediatly noticed that this didn't sound like the shai i knew back then. When I finally got down to listen to the whole album, it was like torcher, there is only 1 good song and in the other tracks, it just seem like they're singing just plain words you would use in everyday speech. I regret buying this when I could have bought something else. It's just a waste of money.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, March 15, 1999
By A Customer

Sort of different from the old style. But the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. There are a lot of good tracks on it. None that stand out though. My rating is really a 3.5 out of 5. If you want to talk to the member who left the group, go to Imusic's site and go to Shai's BBS (urban showcase).

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing At Best..., March 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Destiny (Audio CD)
Shai minus one member, plus new label, plus new production equals a severely disappointing "Destiny" for this group. Their abilities, creativity, and harmonizings are unquestionable. But they have strayed from what made them successful in the first place: harmony laced lyrics with dynamic sentiment. It's as though they regressed to the song "Flava" and built this album on that premise. It's obvious they are missing more than just a former member...they are missing who we knew as "Shai".

4.0 out of 5 stars I would Recommend Destiny, definitely., February 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Destiny (Audio CD)
With Shai, you have to appreciate their ability to harmonize, their vocal talents and their creativity to use different instruments for background music, therefore being original. On to the review. The way I judge and album by a group is by the harmony, the lyrics, the beats, etc. So I would like to say that this album had a lot of good tracks, some very good tracks, and 1 or 2 tracks that I was just not feeling after I heard the album for the second time 'round. I think that the best song on the album was "It's Hard When You Love Someone." This song highlighted their overall style and I think that this single should have been released first if it isn't already. It isn't a love song, its more along the lines of "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday," and "Tha Crossroads". They should also get Billie Woodruff to direct the video (maybe easier said than done). I thought that "Hold On to Love" was a beautiful song, but I just wasn't feeling the chorus. However, there were many positives about the song. I think that Darnell can sing the high notes with the best of them and he did so on this song (he should do so more often). They showed great harmony in this song. But the chorus is where they were missing Carl. The harmony just wasn't there, and this is where they needed the fourth member. As for the other songs, they definitely missed Carl in a couple of songs, his voice added to theirs would have made things sound better. As for the title track that featured KRS One, I've never been a big fan of his, but the song was pretty good. There were some songs on here I could play if I wanted to get in the mood with my girl, but there were no real great songs, just a lot of good ones and some very good ones. "Hold On to Love" could have been great, but wasn't for the reasons that I stated earlier. I would definitely recommend this album to others. I would also like to say that I did like the use of different sounds for the background music. This shows creativity and originality. Note to the group, please be professional about the departure of Carl. The fans don't want to see things get ugly (i.e. Van Halen). Differences in philosophy is always a good answer and leave it at that. Also, please do more promoting, your sales are suffering b/c of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Carl Martin is deeply missed, December 22, 2003

Shai had a impact in the early 90's that we are still felt by, to this day. I believe that the album DESTINY is a failure because there are four members in the group, not three. Every member ads something special. Carl Martin is the missing member. All the Shai members are talented. Will Shai get one more chance? I think all the members need to come as one and give us something new that we can feel before it's to late. Shai's old music and soul will always last till the end of time.
