GUARDIANS

HUNTER

Master of the Frontier - Quick on the trigger and deadly with a blade, Hunters stalk battlefields as if they were hunting prey. Cunning and ruthless, they prize the undiscovered and prepare for the unexpected, channeling their powers by intuition and gut instinct.

TITAN

Armored Engine of War - Their lightning-charged fists will knock you off your feet. Their armor and shields make them nearly invincible. We like to think they are our faceless knights, protecting us from our countless enemies. But their power and resolve gives them the air of rising Gods.

WARLOCK

Wielder of Arcane Power - They've found a way to weaponize their curiosity, harnessing the Traveler's light in patterns never before imagined. Warlocks are not passive scholars of the unknown. These are mystic warriors, capable of incredible acts of devastation.

GAME MODES

CRUCIBLE

Competitive Multiplayer - Enter the Crucible to hone your competitive skills against other Guardians in arenas that span the solar system. Victory will earn you rewards and reputation.

EXPLORE

On-Demand Adventure - Revisit the worlds you have discovered to aid the City in their exploration efforts, seek out valuable resources in order to upgrade your weapons and gear, and link up with other brave Guardians roaming the frontier in search of action and adventure.

STORY

Epic Campaign - Destiny features a rich, cinematic story, centered on your quest to discover and explore the remains of humanity's Golden Age. As a Guardian, you must venture beyond our walls, into a wild and dangerous frontier, and take the fight to ancient evil forces hell bent on our destruction.

STRIKE

Cooperative Multiplayer - Form a Fireteam, three Guardians strong. Infiltrate an enemy stronghold, cutting through wave after wave of enemy ranks emboldened by their fierce, battle-hardened leaders. Confront an enemy worthy of only the bravest Guardians.

TOWER

Third Person Social Space - Home of the Guardians, the Tower is a third person social hub where you can regroup, rearm, and form new alliances before venturing beyond the safety of the City's walls.

DESTINATIONS

EARTH

Our home. After the Darkness swept over us, we found the Traveler where it made its last stand. Beneath, we built The City – our last – within its protective aura. From here, Guardians stand watch, defend our civilization, and strike out into the wild frontiers of Earth – and beyond – to reclaim our lost worlds.

MARS

What little we know of Mars may as well be a myth. We built a massive metropolis in the red dust. The Darkness swept nearly all of it away; the sand itself claimed the rest. No one knows what remains of our lost age, now buried beneath the dunes.

MOON

Like Earth, the ruins of humanity's former glory can be found scattered across the familiar lunar surface. Recent exploration attempts have been repulsed, reporting increased enemy activity, and even strange tectonic phenomenon. The City has since classified the Moon as a "Forbidden Zone," open only to our most brave and experienced Guardians.

VENUS

Venus was once the site of great discovery – a paradise. Now, it is a monument to all that we have lost. The old stories say we built an academy dedicated to learning and research on the shore of a wondrous sea, and that the waters themselves boiled and rose up to shatter the coast, washing away all that we had built.

ENEMIES

CABAL

Few Guardians have faced Cabal and lived to tell the tale. They are a professional military operation. On every front we have found them on the march, they have already dug in and ringed their installations with razor wire. Now, it seems they've turned their eyes towards us.

FALLEN

Fallen are hardy creatures who can survive in a wide range of environments without heavy armor or complex modifications to their physiology. They travel light, hit hard, and are gone before you know it. Fallen may look like mere scavengers, but on closer inspection you will see hints of a splendid, sophisticated past, and the proud markings of their ancestral "Houses."

HIVE

Hive manipulate the physical world in ways that we can only begin to imagine. The Hive have carved a kingdom deep into the lifeless core of the Moon, and it is there they remain, silent and buried among many dark and terrible secrets, a reminder of the tremendous power that brought forth the Collapse.

VEX

Scattered reports indicate that the Vex appear to be mass-produced machine units, constructed of an unknown metal alloy resembling hammered brass. All attempts to communicate with them have failed. They are hostile. They are unrelenting. They are deadly.

Destiny has a high level of polish, so it's great for a couple weeks of solid gameplay, but there's a couple factors that limit the longevity of it:
1) As a dabble into the multiplayer realm, Bungie fails miserably. There is no chat box...ever. You can not use voice with people unless you manually make a group from your friend's list (auto-groups don't have voice). Raids don't even HAVE an auto-group. There are no in-game guilds, or indicators of location/progress of friends. Meaning it is a real chore to try and befriend and play with new people. If you have a group of friends from another game already whose schedules line up with yours, perfect. But if you don't, you won't be able to find any.

2) The single-player experience isn't bad....but it's not Halo level for sucking you in. I think the irony is that if they made it single-player ONLY, then it might have, but seeing people randomly going around doing their own thing (yet NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM), really detracts from the immersion and story.

3) The end-game gear grind, based around "Dailies", is a mechanic that will wear thin quite quickly. I actually feel like Borderlands has a more enjoyable end-game farm (which is a shame because I don't even like Borderlands, gear treadmills just don't keep my attention). Perhaps if they re-tool the Raids so that they can be accomplished with PUGs (Pick-Up-Groups of random players), it would add more appeal and longevity for the casual player.

The franchise is designed around releasing multiple expansions and sequels (since there's no monthly fee), and I'm not opposed to acquiring them, but they drastically need to enhance the community aspect in-game and target the Raids for more casual players.

This game was a letdown, I honestly wish I could get a refund. I will admit it was my fault for giving into the hype, but at the end of the day, it's about a good experience with a great product. This game is a decent experience with a poorly managed product, the developers continue to ignore blatant problems, the game is extremely short, were talking 4.5 to 5 hours long on casual play through the main story, which I may add makes no sense. The story feels as if large chunks were just cut right out, and this gives a huge feeling of disconnect with the universe and detracts from immersion. It's not all horrible, the gameplay is solid, the gunplay is unmatched, the powers are really cool, the exotic items (when RNGesus lets you have them) are amazing. Overall, I felt a little cheated after I played through this game, and it really is the only game I have ever felt as if I deserved a refund. There is always the same lingering issue that gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach, that the parts that were cut out, are going to be sold to the consumer as paid DLC and marketed as being the next part of the "Destiny Experience!" which I'm not necessarily mad about, I'm just really disappointed in you Bungie...

The game failed miserably. The open world does not feel like an open. Instead, it feels like many repeated cookie cutter zone map. It fail to convey the sense that all the mini maps are actually one world. Also failed as a mmo, there is no sense of community. Totally regret buying this game.

Disappointment of the year. The gameplay is repetitive, boring, and bland. I have no idea what the story was about, as it made absolutely no sense. It was like trying to follow a Transformers movie. On the plus side, the graphics are absolutely beautiful and the sound design is stellar. It's a shame these are wasted on such an underwhelming, hollow experience. Save your money folks.

It was fun but has a big component of the story and your stats online via the bungie.net website or the app so you may miss out on a lot of the storyline. Even with those, I feel I'm missing big chunks of the gameplay. I played through the single-person storyline and now kind of bored. You need to be online to play even solo and need to subscribe to the monthly fee through PSN or XBOX to access all the missions and cooperative/competitive play. There are some hot fixes being implemented that are not focusing on what players care about (eg downgrading gun damage etc to be noob-friendly) so I'm not sure there will be a lot of staying power for this game. Perhaps they are just relying on new players joining. However, expansion packs are planned for later this year so perhaps that will keep the momentum going.

Could've been better. The game is great, but repetitive. The updates aren't that impressive. Player vs Player Gameplay is fun, and developers do read around to figure out how to make the game more fair.

The biggest downfall is that if you don't buy the Dowloadable Content (DLC Expansions), you'll be missing more than half the storyline and game experience, so you'll need to shell $15~20 more. The major updates takes a while, too. It's understandable that it requires time to make a patch to fix bugs and add context, but it feels that it's taking a bit longer than it should. Hopefully, they release the full game WITH the DLC's included in the near future.
