"I could not have put it down if I tried. The characters were incredible, with a hero to drool over." WereVampsRomance

"Although there was a lot of action, there was also plenty of dialogue, romance, and time spent getting to know and care about the characters." Bitten by Paranormal Romance

"It is an intense thrill ride filled with twists and turns that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and leave you begging for more of Leia Shaw's 'literary crack' - it is that addicting." Paromantasy

"This book is unbelievably touching and frustrating. A combination that adds to the appeal of this story because of the personal growth the heroine, Erin, experiences. The key role Marcelo plays in Erin's metamorphosis plunges the two into an emotional relationship that will have you cheering, crying, and sighing." Bonafide Reflections

It is very rare that I don't finish a book and while it is no longer impossible for me to do, it is still very difficult. I have no doubt that one of the reasons I was able to make this a DNF read was because I had recently read its prequel and many of the problems I had with this book I had also had with that one. While I did make myself finish DESTINY DIVIDED, Book 1 in the Shadows of Destiny series, I accepted halfway through DESTINY UNITED that this series and its heroines are obviously not for me and there was no point in my continuing.

HEROINE, Erin / Aila (21):
DESTINY UNITED is about Erin / Aila Bolton, the younger (foster) sister of Sage Peterson, the heroine in DESTINY DIVIDED. Erin is setup as being the opposite of Sage personality-wise, however what she is supposed to be according to descriptions of her (what we're told) and how she actually is (what we're shown) are two very, very different things. Erin As She's Told is a timid nice-girl with an anxiety disorder and a reliance on alcohol to cope with her illness. She suffers from panic attacks when she has to go into a new place and/or be around people whom she does not know. She does not trust easily because of her unstable upbringing, and a traumatic event in her youth made her even more distrustful of men in particular. She is smart, nice, well-behaved, and always wanting to please people. You get the idea, right?

Now, let's compare her with Erin As She's Shown. This Erin initially gets nervous going alone into a bar filled with people, she does it and manages to be calm enough to flirt with a group of guys so that she can get them to buy her drinks. Other than that, we're not shown any addiction-battling or proof of this supposed dependence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marcelo Can Bite Me Any Time July 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
After the first book I had high expectations of Shaw and she didn't disappoint. Marcelo is a hulky alpha vamp who can bite my neck any day of the week. He's sent on a mission by his Queen Shade to retrieve her sister and escort her back to the underworld. Marcelo isn't happy about it but reluctantly obeys, thinking it will be a quick smash and grab. When Marcelo comes for her, Erin starts off afraid and a little oblivious to the world she's about to be thrown into, but quickly adapts to become a very strong heroine. A world of fairies, werewolves, and problem. Managing a surly vampire? Now that's a challenge.

This is the second in the series but it stands alone very well. The writing flows wonderfully and the characters are well developed.

Can't wait for book three! :D

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Paranormal Romance December 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I dove into the Shadows of Destiny series because the first book in the series, Destiny Divided, was FREE. Did I say FREE? Yep, I did. It’s actually on a list I made of awesomely series that start with freebies. And while I’m going all link happy in this paragraph, I might as well link to my review of Destiny Divided (book one). There, the link gods are happy now.

This was Erin and Marcello’s story. Erin was going through some major life changes – she’d been taken away from everything she knew by an eight hundred year old vampire and then there were magical surprises… She was challenged and, in turn, challenged her eight hundred year old babysitter – umm, vampire. They both had to adapt and grow up a bit in order to get what they ultimately wanted and to thrive. I found myself riveted to the story, wanting to witness this process and their progression. Their fun banter did not hurt either.

She wanted either to push him out the door and slam it shut, or yank him back in and tackle him on the bed. She settled for staring dumbly instead.

The story was interesting and fast paced. There was magic, vampires, the Underworld, the Fey, and a sneaky dragon. There was also action – the fighting kind and the sexy kind. You can’t really go wrong with that. I think so, anyway. But then, I love magic and fairy tales. And sex. I might have said that before. Once or twice.

She gulped. Perhaps provoking the vampire had been a bad idea. The image of poking a wild bear with a stick came to mind.

My one complaint is that, to me, that – the above quote – was build up to some super hotness! A pissed off alpha vampire about to put his woman in her place. YES! I’m a pervert, remember? That’s what I find hot.
