“Appealing, well-depicted characters, zippy dialog, intriguing snippets of California history, and a quickly paced plot make this refreshing multicultural Western a rewarding read.” (Library Journal)

Material in the genre of African-American historical romance is not plentiful, but Jenkins is the pre-eminent voice. She delivers another gem with this first in her new Destiny series. (Romantic Times BOOKclub praise for DESTINY'S EMBRACE)

“Beverly Jenkins has reached romance superstardom .” (Detroit Free Press)

“Jenkins’s sassy heroines, well drawn secondary characters and seamless incorporation of black history result in a fresh, winning historical.” (Publishers Weekly)

This book is in a long line of excellence for Beverly Jenkins! I have been a fan of hers since Topaz and each time she weaves a story it is just so wonderful that I can't put it down until the book is completed. In Destiny's Embrace we meet a wonderful woman that has the worst family who makes her way out and put her self out of her comfort zone to embrace her Destiny. Logan, is a hardheaded man that needs and gets a wake up call in the form of a "witch hazel" goddess. to aid in his wake up call is the mother of his heart Alanza his stepmother. I could say more but then you wouldn't read the book. So here I go. Beverly Jenkins is a spectacular author and I hope she lives forever if nothing else but to tell more stories. Go buy this book you will not be disappointed.

This was such a joy to read. I love to read Beverly Jenkins and her novels never disappoint. I'm glad she made the main character Mariah to have some sass, a backbone and a feisty the spirit to her. It was also nice that she introduced new characters but still stayed within her classic historical story telling. If this is the first of 3 New characters, I can't wait until the next books come out!

Destiny's Embrace is a wonderfully written story about a somewhat sympathetic character and the unlikely love which is found when she embraces courage. In true Jenkins' tradition, it is filled with bone-deep love, sizzling passion, and fantastic historical details. I truly loved this book and can't wait until the second in this series.

When Mariah Cooper ran from the stifling confines of her Philadelphia life, she makes it all the way to California. This was not the hustle and bustle of a big city but work as a housekeeper seemed to become a good fit. California was more rugged than she was used to and Logan Yates the man she worked for was rough around the edges on a good day.

Mariah and Logan push, pull, fight, and much to Mariah's surprise even kissed. Even though Mariah lived in his house, Logan was always the gentlemen even though he hated her changing everything around. Yes the house was cluttered but he knew where his socks were so who cared if they were under a saddle.

Time brought them to less fighting and more kissing and exploring where a relationship between them might go. Logan did not want a wife and fought the notion as best as he could but Mariah showed she was his equal and perhaps that is what made a good marriage. However, a mountain of trouble is coming to California to do its best to destroy any chance of having a long life of happiness. If Logan can hold on and Mariah believe in forever they may make it, if not well who knows what the next train will take back to Philadelphia.

Beverly Jenkins writes a mix of perfection with a touch of suspense, a pinch of character conflict, and a full cup of love.

I am a fan. I enjoyed reading Destiny's Embrace. There were a few editing problems. However, my main concern is how Mrs. Beverly place Spain and the Spainards on a pedestal. She made them out to be more than they are. From 711 to 1492 (700 years) the African Moors brought culture and richness to a backward Spain. I would highly suggest the author read The Story of the Moors (Stanley Lane Poole), The Golden Age of the Moors (Ivan Van Sertima -Journal of African Civilization), Sex & Race II (J.A. Rogers), The Early African Presence in American (I. Van Sertima), & The First of Americans Were Africans (Imhotep David). I highly recommended the first three books, if she can't get to them all. I can quarantee her next installements of these characters will be far richer. Dr. Sertima can be found on you tube discussing the Spain & the African Moors.

Also putting Spain and the Spaniards on a pedestal as an African woman she sanctioning rape, murder, and the exploitation of the indengiousness population and the Africans who were brought there to take their place after they killed 90% of the existing population.

My second problem was Logan's father's family was no where in the picture. It is as if his father was hatched from an egg or something. Logan's father is the African side. The Spanish side of the woman he married if the story we read about.

My third problem was the characters falling in love and marrying in two to three weeks. That is so unrealistic Mrs. Beverly. I know you have the talent to add time so the situations are more realistic.

My fourth problem is the Max character. You did not tell us anything really about him. Was he a Black man, etc.?

I guess I should have rated the book a strong 2. However, I give Mrs. Beverly the benefit of the doubt because she has other works that are better.

I hope to see most historical truth in the next book.

I am a HUGE fan of Beverly Jenkins' historical romances. Although I am used to how the other stories interconnected and characters would resurface in other books, I enjoyed this book because it was a fresh start: fresh new location, and fresh new characters that another series of historical romances will include. All the characters made the book exciting. I was appalled at Mariah's mother though, she was horrible and I clapped so hard when the slap came...
I thought Mariah and Logan's romance was sizzling. I especially liked that they weren't really intimate throughout the entire book, but much of their romance was the passionate bickering followed by the erotic foreplay!

Awesome! Can't wait until Andrew Antonio's book, which I'm assuming is next.
