3.0 out of 5 stars I agree with the previous 'Vintage Taylor' reviewer. LONG!
I too wish this author had glossed over some sections. They weren't boring, but would have rather read less of the war plans & dialoge and more of the main relationship instead. This is my 1st Janelle Taylor book, but it won't be my last. I just agree that is just how the Vintage Taylor wrote her review, it could have easily been my words -exactly.

4.0 out of 5 stars VINTAGE TAYLOR, October 13, 2000

This review is from: Destiny's Temptress (Paperback)
Readers be warned this novel is a whopping 537 pages! Although it is certainly well researched, I feel that certain details could be glossed over as I have no doubt the war of the north and south is quite well documented and readers just want to get on with the story. The misunderstandings between the fiesty Shannon Greenleaf and Union agent Blane Stevens created many expected conflicts and I sympathize with them for the hardship and mistrust they had to endure during uncertain war times. I do, however, wonder how Ms Taylor manages to keep up with so many supporting characters. Readers not used to her style might be very confused with all the places and names she mentioned. I have to say I learned a lot about the civil war from this book as I usually find this theme quite dry. Also, Ms Taylor is always able to bring her hometown of the romantic old South come to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destiny's Temptress..., March 25, 2003

UNION SPY...
Shannon Greenleaf had one chance to save the gracious Southern lifestyle she'd always known -- but the fiery-haired beauty had to cross enemy lines to do it. And when she did, she found herself in the bedroom of the most handsome man she'd ever seen -- Blane Stevens. His broad chest and rippling muscles made her yearn for his strong embrace; his dark green eyes smouldering with a deep, burning passion. So when he held her in his arms threatening to torment her until she confessed her real mission, the defiant temptress was lost. She surrendered her innocence, vowing that she'd never reveal the truth -- or let him capture her heart. . . .

REBEL SOLDIER...
Blane Stevens could not have been more surprised than to find the intruder in his room to be as beautiful and desirable as Shannon Greenleaf. Yet there were ways of making spies talk -- and Blane was a master at getting information. He took what he wanted and asked questions later, even from the innocent, young vixen in his bed. He knew Shannon was naive in the ways of love, but Blane couldn't control the overwhelming ecstacy he felt when he caressed her velvet flesh. He would sweetly torture her with pleasure all through the night, until she became his one, his only DESTINY'S TEMPTRESS!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, August 13, 1998
This review is from: Destiny's Temptress (Paperback)
This is the book that got me interested in reading. It was exceptionally well written. The characters are defiant and strong. The book keeps you well entertained into the night. I couldn't put it down until the story was finished. Even now, having read it no less than 10 times, I still consider this book an all nighter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Janelle Taylor never disappoints!, November 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was great. It was my first civil war era novel and i loved it. I have read the gray eagle series by janelle taylor and became absolutely obsessed with her. She really knows how to keep the plot interesting. The story is about a union spy named Blane and a woman named Shannon. Shannon goes along to confederate territory with Blane to look for her brother whos been missing. Blane and Shannon form a relationship as they are traveling, hiding from, and fighting confederate soldiers. There is some misunderstandings that occur between the characters but it all eventually gets figured out. If you look sizziling love/hate romances about adventure then this is the book for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 1/2 stars...maybe 3 and 3/4 stars, October 7, 2010

Janelle Taylor was the author that got me into romance books. And this book was different than the others I've read from her. There definitely was too much information about things of no importance. Also, I felt like Shannon and Blane went through too many of those times where he didn't trust her and she got hurt and everything got messed up again and they had to make up. A few less of those events, less historical junk, and the book would have been perfect. I did like Shannon a lot, she was really brave and very smart.

If you aren't into Cival war romances, I'd pass on this one, but I was so drawn in, I had to finish it. The love scenes still linger on my thoughts when I think of good romances. My only complaint is the story seemed toward completion, then a second plot was added that made it drag on too long. 3 1/2 stars.
